he became assistant pastor in
Rayville, La. and began pas-
toring in Holly Ridge La. from
1990-1994. He and his family
moved back to Electra in July
1995 to become pastor at the
United Pentecostal Church.
Donny and his wife Mary
have been married 20 years and
have two children; Heather who
graduated in 2000 from Electra
High School and is attending
Midwestern State University
and Jeff who is a junior at
EHS.
In making the announcement
Donny said “I have served this
community for the past 51/2
years as a pastor and would like
• to serve also in this capacity.
I would appreciate everyone’s
support.”

Blood drive officials said 24
people registered and 24 pints
were collected. “These precious
units will give the gift of life
to many area patients. Each
unit of blood is separated into
the three blood components —
plasma, platelets and red cells
and each component goes on to
serve different patient needs,
be it accident victim, cancer
patient or a newborn.”
Officials extended a special
thank you to Patty Riley for co-
ordinating the drive, and a spe-
cial thank you to the volunteers
who helped including Dorothy
Lee, Carolynn Sue Williams,
Gynal McAlister, Edna Curry,
Chrystal Fowler and Jackie
Pemberton.
and each Friday at noon for the next
four weeks ending on Friday, April 13, 2001.
The tests are to make sure that the sirens
are working properly for
the upcoming storm season.

He and his wife Maggie
have resided in Electra for the
past four years. He is a life-
time resident of Wichita County
and graduated from Iowa Park
High School. He has an asso-
ciate degree in Computer Sci-
ence and been in the engineering
. field for the past twenty-three
years. He is currently employed
by Corlett, Probst and Boyd,
a civil engineering firm in Wi-
chita Falls.

for the past four years and I
have helped implement several I
crucial changes for the hous- |
ing community. He is on the I
Main Street Design Committee I
and helped update the maps for
the historical district and for
the past nine years has served
on the steering committee for
Hottcr-N-Hcll and is also a
United States Cycling Federa-
tion official. The couple attend
the Electra Community Church
and are active in the Red River
Emmaus Community.
In making this announcement
Kieren said, “We moved to
Electra after my wife Maggie
got a job teaching special edu-
cation at Dinsmore Elementary
and we have fallen in love with
the community and the people
of Electra. I feel that I would
be an asset to the City Council
and would appreciate your vote
on May 5th.”
Sales tax rebate for the
City of Electra in March was
less than that received a year j
ago, however for 2001 the 1
total remains higher, according |
to Texas Comptroller Carole |
Keeton Rylander.
The March payment for Elec-
tra was $19,915.12 while at
this time in 2000 the pay-
ment was $21,369.44. To date
in 2001 the City has received
$66,160.50, a positive increase
over the $62,820.00 recorded
here in March of 2000.
All four cities in Wichita
County collecting sales and use
tax showed a decline in March.
City of Iowa Park showed the
greatest reduction, some 32.01
percent while the smallest was
recorded by the City of Wichita
Falls at 1.04 percent.
City of Electra and City
of Wichita Falls are ahead in
2001 while both Burkburnett
and Iowa Park are showing
decreases.
Electrons pay two cents on ev-
ery dollar of taxable purchases
above the state sales tax figure.

Lake Electra was reported at
1099.92 feet above mean sea
level on Thursday, March 15, as
compared to 1099.33 on March
1.

Elections

Wednesday, March 21, was
the final date for filing as a
candidate for the three local
upcoming elections to be held in
May.
Late Tuesday afternoon three
candidates had filed for the
two expiring terms on the City
Commission. Glen Branch filed
for re-election to Place One, and
Charlie Gray and Ed Kieren
had filed as candidates for Place
Two now held by Danny Clack.
The school district office
reported James (Buzz) Boswell
and Greg Williams had filed
for re-election to the board of
trustees, and Eddie Rodgers
and Donny Napier had filed for
the position now held by Harry
McAlister.
At the hospital filings in-
cluded Janet Gilbert and John
David Prickett, unopposed for
re-election, and Teddie Miller,
incumbent, and Ronnie Kays for
place two.

Ronnie, an Electra native
graduated from Electra High
School in 1967, attended North
Central College and Midwest-
ern State University.
Kays is presently employed
by the State National Bank
of Texas. His wife Cheryl is
a teacher at Electra Junior
High. Their son Josh attends
Midwestern State University.
They belong to the First United
Methodist Church.

READY FOR WORK - Truck loads of wheat straw began arriving at the Agriboard
plant west of Electra on Tuesday in anticipation of beginning production of construction
panels for manufacturing. Some 55,520 pounds of wheat straw from Haven, Kansas, is
included in the initial shipment. Production at the plant is expected to get underway later
this month
