Dear Editor:
Recently Mrs. Robin Melton held
a door to door campaign to benefit
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Funds raised through this event
help support biomedical and clini-
cal research, a nationwide network
of 127 cystic fibrosis care centers
(4 in Texas), and public and
professional education to increase
recognition of the disease.
Cystic Fibrosis is America’s
number one genetic killer and one
out of every twenty of us carries
that gene. CF is characterized by
three major symptons: respiratory
problems, digestive problems and
excessive salt loss. At this time the
disease is encurable and fatal.
However, through research and
better care, in the past 15 years
the average life expectancy of a
child with CF has been lengthened I•/
from 3 years to around 21. 1
We thank Mrs. Melton and the
participants and sponsors whose
contribution help give additional '.3
years and improved quality of life >
to those who have CF. 1
Sincerely yours,
,______________Andrea Rutledge
