It had been intended to start the
laying of gravel on the Dallas road
Monday but the rain last week pre-
vented the Anal grading and rolling
of the road bed and It will probably be
next week before gravel laying is
started. A large amount of the road
is ready for the grading to be finished
the gravel spread and with fair
weather this is expected to be under
way by next Monday.

Then, too, since they are assembling cars at the
Dallas plaiit we are getting more cars for delivery.
Delivery on Ford cars has not been what we would like
to have had, still its getting better. True, on some
models delivery is slow while on others it is not so slow.
We can make delivery on all but two models without
great delay at this time and would be glad to talk over
the matter of buying a Ford with you. Reasonable
delivery dates on Coupelet, Sedans, Trucks.
Call us up at ’phone 51 and let us show you either
a Coupelet or Sedan. New models of these in stock
for a few days.

Preaident F. M. Bralley delivered a
very comprehensive addreas to the
students and faculty of the college at
the chapel hour Tuesday morning. His
talk was on the state's educational
system and followed an addrea* on a
similar subject which was given |.et
week by Prof R. X Turrentine. , The
two addresses were very illuminating
to the students and gave them much
information not generally known con-
cerning the school system of Texas.
Mi'. Bralley said the educational sys-
tem was designed for three principal
objects—preparing the people of the
state for a broad, comprehensive and
! productive citize nship; to preserve
tUw state intelligently and spiritually;
Ito give tach person an opportunity to
1 make the best of htmself. He said that
the health of the people Is now be-
ginning to be realized as an important
part tn th* education of th* citizen-
ship. although this was neglected In
the earlier days. After discussing the
matter at some length. Mr. Bralley told
of some of the needs of the system.
The people ought to rely more on lo-
cal taxation for the support of their
schools than on funds from the state,
he <Ux-la.r*d. He sa»«t that the giving
of ,t<»o much money by the state might ,
tend to keep the people in some sec- I
tions from relying on their own re-
sources as they should. Other needs of
the system he outlined as that of
more high schools; the selection in-
stead of the election of county super-
intendents; a state board of education
that would select the state superin-
tendent and have complete charge of
the administering of educatlnnal af- |
fairs in tit* state.
