MPUND CITY, Kas., April
John C. Scott went on trial here
today for the second time on char-
ges df murdering his wife, Eleanor
Scott. Love of Arlene Scott, pretty
19-year-old niece of his wife, was
the motive for the slaying, authori-
ties contend. Charges of murder
against Arlene were dismissed be-
fore she was brought to trial. In the
first trial the jury disagreed after
voting 8 to 4 for conviction.
•J|Oys pf Salvation” was the sub-
ject of. the Tuesday afternoon ser-
mon given by Dr. O. L. Powers at
the First Baptist Church. “God 1"
Love,” taken from the Scriptural
text John 2:16-, was the subject of
the Tufyday evening sermon. Five
additions were made to the church
nt the close of the evening'services.
The closing nermon will be given
Wednesday evening. Special bap-
tismal services will be held on ths
occasion. Sixty-seven additions have
been made to the church thuk far
during |t6e revival services.
That joy in religion brings physi-
cal and spiritual regeneration and
happiness was emphasized by the
speaker jn his opening remarks at
the afternoon service. The joys of
religion will blot out sins of the
past, he said.
.md knows our sins as we re-
member them,’’ Powers said, “And
it is only through the ftys that
come from a faith in Him that can
make us forget them.?’
That one can lose his joy was
given in the.jvofd oThfi^d .the speak-
er sptfL. illustrating hl» point with

joy—to find it only in his :>ew

,‘*Tbe sour-faced and the dropping
mouthed are the drawbacks to re-
ligon,” the speaker pointed out. “It
is very well to be preserved, but it
is is fearful crime to be pickled. If
you want happiness for yourself and
for others, keep the corners of your
mouth turned upward ”
The quotation from John 2:1'1.
"For God ao lovgd the world that
he gave his only begotten son" was
the basis of the evening sermon
How God had given His son, a ;n/re
babe, to an earthly world to be abus-
ed, scorned, and doubted to save the^
world, is the "upremest test of
God’s love, the speaker pointed out
“No father in aR history has
ever made an offering of his son
except tpe heaveply Father,” Power"
said. "Abraham was probably the
closest appronfh to this sucrifi?e,
but could he give his son as Jams
was given? Could any father give
his son to the cause that God gave
rffs, and then, in the hour of his
Stjp?!*me trial, turn His ba-k on
