the New Horizon facilities and
provided an overview of the
ranch-its purpose and vision.
New Horizons received
school supplies from our chapter
as part of our current project. New
Horizons was founded as a resi-
dential treatment center for emo-
tionally disturbed boys on April Nancy
16, 1971 with the original name
being Camp Pecan Bayou. In 1974
the name was changed to New
Horizons. In 1975 it became a
* non-profit corporation allowing
even more Texas children to
become eligible for treatment.
Brandon shared with us that the
first girl came to them in 1976.
Through many, many donations.
New Horizons is able to help
many of our Texas children.
Doris Crawford passed the
“rose” to Ruby Schuman. Doris
described Ruby as someone who
had been an inspiration to her and
whom she had considered as her
mentor.
Terri Christian’s name was
drawn to receive the Silver Box
from Doris Crawford.
The meeting was adjourned
with the singing of the Delta kappa
Gamma song by members and
accompanied by Paula Howard.
Local members present were
Debbie Gilder and Darlene
Mathis.
