Masons from across the state
came to the Alvin Senior Center
to join the Alvin Masonic Lodge
on Saturday to celebrate its
125th anniversary.
The Alvin Masonic Lodge
#762 has been in existence since
Dec. 7, 1893, the same year
Alvin was incorporated. Today,
the Alvin Masonic Lodge has
around 300 members. City
Councilmen Glenn Starkey and
Brad Richards are both
members, as well as former City
Councilman Roger Stuksa.

Lor the first time since the
J.B. Hensler Academy opened
its doors late last year, students
of Alvin ISD’s law enforcement
training program participated in
simulated training scenarios
mimicking real-life situations
that officers may find themselves
in each day.
Students participated in
scenarios: a suicidal subject, a
felony traffic stop, a burglary in
progress and a family violence
disturbance on which students
were graded as a final
examination.
Several officers from the
Alvin ISD Police Department
assisted with the activity, and
administrators became actors
to fill the roles of members of
the public and individuals in

Officers’ Association held its
15th annual Shop with a Cop
event Tuesday to bring Christmas
to local children.
Started in 2004 with just six
kids in the first year, the event
has grown to include 21 kids for
Christmas 2018, each choosing
$175 worth of toys. During the
first years, children only had
$100, but the growth of the event
has allowed the amount per child
to increase.
This year, Texas Advantage
Community Bank and the Alvin
Noon Lions’ Club assisted the
Police Officers’ Association
with the event and PetSmart of
League City donated a stuffed
animal for each child.

Regional Hospital, while Ramos
reported no injuries and was
arrested on three counts of
intoxication assault.
