I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the good
wishes extended to me after my hospitalization for a staph infection,
which followed a month to the day after my gall bladder surgery.
All the cards, calls, emails, Facebook posts and visits really lifted
my spirits. I am now almost fully recovered from the infection, but
now I have a rash to contend with (origins unknown).
To my family and friends - thank you for your support and most
importantly, your prayers.

SWIFT welcomes summer 2015 tutors
The SWIFT tutoring program once again attracted a large group of summer members from area high schools and 12 different public and private colleges and
universities statewide to serve in Schulenburg and Weimar summer schools. Each tutor was sworn in as an AmeriCorps member after a week-long pre-service
training held in facilities generously donated by Blinn College’s Schulenburg campus. New and returning members learned about AmeriCorps, tutoring strategies,
applied behavior analysis presented by Hatch Learning Community, disaster preparedness, 40 Developmental Assets and other skills needed to be a successful
tutor and mentor. Forty percent of the summer corps are returning members so they are able to step into leadership positions and mentor the new members.
In addition to summer school, all SWIFT AmeriCorps members participate in SWIFT programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs, and assist at art camps held in collabo-
ration with Arts for Rural Texas, Junior Master Gardener programs during July at Blinn College, Kids College in partnership with Blinn College, literacy projects at
the Schulenburg Public Library and other service projects in the community. SWIFT (Schulenburg & Weimar In Focus Together) summer AmeriCorps tutors include:
