Message From the Holy Father.
The message from the Pope to
the Congress was delivered by
the Apostolic Delegate, as fol-
lows:
“Bv a letter, dated September
5, 1908, No. H1,S>65, His Emin-
ence, Cardinal Merry del Vai, in-
formed me that His Holiness,
Pops Pius X., had commissioned
me to present, in hie name, to
the first American Missionary
Congress, and to the Catholic
Church Extension Society hie
congratulations, and at the same
time to impart hie Apostolic
Benediction to the Congress, to
the Catholic Church Extension
Society and to all the friends and
benefactors of the great move-
ment,
“This duty, laid upon me by
the Sovereign Pontiff, is, indeed,
an agreeable one. Since that
marvelous day, upon which
Christ Jesus, our Lord, bsde His
disciples go forth unto the utter-
most bounds of tbo earth, to car-
ry the message of salvation and
to announce the kingdom of God,
it has been the singular preroga-

The consecration of the beau-,7. ..d„., Z. ZZ ;.
tifal Church of the Immaculate' N, Buuer, Rev. J. J. Robling,
Conception at Fredericksburg,
Texas, on Tuesday morning,
November 24, was a notable
event in the annals of the diocese
of San Antonio, and one which
may bo said to mark an epoch in
the history of the Church in
Southwest Texas. In this sec-
tion, few and far between are the
parishes which have made such
progress in material growth as
to own a solid and durable house
of worship, appropriately equip-
ped for all the requirements of
the sacred liturgy,and absolutely
free of debt. That the compar-
atively small mountain parish of
Fredericksburg- hue attained this
enviable position is something of
which the Catholics of that city
and their energetic pastor may
well feel proud. For, only by the
self-sacrificing generosity of the
faithful and the untiring zeal for
God’s glory of their pastor could
such magnificent results have
been achieved. The whole dio-
cese congratulates Father Neisens
and his flock and shares in the
joy which must be theirs at the
happy fulfillment of their long*
choriahad 1 ,
their labors and sacrifices.
This feeling wae made abund-
antly manifest by the large at-
