Dr. Pound Historical Farmstead

Built in 1854, the Homestead was home to one of the founding families of Dripping Springs near Austin. Occupied by the Pound family until 1983, it was the first school house, church, and medical office. The reconstructed home and its decorative artifacts represent life in Central Texas around the year 1910.

Text: "Dec. 29th 1918. Dear Miss Georgia. Will try an drop you a few lines. I am fine and hope you are the same. I am in Thincourt now a small village about fourty [sic] five killometers [sic] from Verdon [Verdun]. This is a beautiful country, it is not very cold yet, the hills are covered with green grass, but the country is pretty badly scared up, how is everything in New Mex? I guess it is pretty cold there? Well I want you to look around and see if you can find me a good home stead and find out all you can about the home-stead-law […]. I might go to N.M. again when I get back if I can find something good. You will have a good chance to find out all about the country land and let me know what you think about tit. I am undecided about what I will do when I get back, but I think I will go west. I don’t know how long we will be in France but I think chances is good now for being in the states by spring. When is your school out? Well Miss Georgia I have seen some pretty […] times over here. I was on the front when the last gun was fired, but I never got a scratch. Our casualties [sic] was very small. I haven’t […] any of the D.-S. Boys yet. How is all on the ranch[?] I guess Miss. Mitte is a having a lonesome time, answer real soon and a long letter. Best wishes for.a happy New Years, Your friend, Pvt. Roger L. Fulton, Co. A. 34th Inf. American E. F. 793."
