The
The moving picture show in
this city which has been run
under the name of “The Grand”
changed hands this week,
is, one partner bought
interest of the other,
pleasure resort has been owned
by Ed Henry and Price McCall
and under the new regime Price
McCall has secured entire con-
trol. For the present the show
will be discontinued, because of
the dynamo being broken and
the extremely warm weather,
but Mr. McCall informs The
News that the house will open
again in August and that he will
; do his best to give the public a
clean show. There are many
advantages in the show being
owned by one man, and there is
little question but that under
the management of Mr. McCall
the business, when it re opens
will be better than ever before.
The present owner has some
very tine ideas about the enter
tainment of the public and he
requests us to state that in the
future he will do his best to give
the people their money's worth,
and just a little bit more.

Monday of this week the store

Cochran & Greaves was bought
by the latter gentleman and in
the future the firm will be J. B.

from the firm because of the
sickness of his wife who is now
out west, and it is his desire to
join her and travel a while. Mr.
Greaves is well known in this
section; handles a high grade of
groceries; has just entered the

All Agree That There Was
Larger Crowd Here Than
Before This Year
During the month of July
every one ordering a suit of
clothes from Bill Berry, the
tailor, will be given, absolutely
free, an extra pair of pants or a
fancy vest. This offer is good
until the thirty-first day of this
month and is one that only a
select few of the best tailors in
the country can offer. By re-
quest of The News Mr. Berry
allows this paper to publish the
following letter, which is self
explanatory:
Chicago, 111., June 25, 1909.
Mr. C. B. Berry,
Nocona, Texas
Dear Sir:—
Here is our “July Special”
that turns a usually dull month
into busy, profitable days. With
each order for a complete suit—
coat and pants—or overcoat, we
will send an Extra Pair of Pants
ora Fancy Silk Vest without
charge. State on the order
which of these garments is pre-
ferred. Either one will be sent
FREE, providing you will write
on the order “July Special.”
This offer is good now and until
July 31st, 1909. It applies on all
materials, excepting plain blacks
and plain blues and corduroys.
It’s an enthusiastic July Wind-
up Sale ofall Springand Summer,
1909 materials, and the free
garment applies on these goods
only.
Your customer may select a
Free Pant of the same material
as the suit he orders, or any
other material of the same value
--blacks, blues ami corduroys
excepted. Or he can have any
fancy Silk Vest, giving us the
privilege, however, to substitute
an equally good vesting pattern
in case we should be sold out of
the one ho picks
Sincerely yours,

was awarded to Mr. Combs
Kirby, while Tom Baker took
second money in this class.
Several nice drivers were
entered for the driving contest,
but Ed Pair was awarded this
premium.
Quinn Paine took first money
for the best pair of horses,
although in this class also the
matter was very close. Mrs.
Bowers entered a pair of mares
which were very fine, but the
horses of Mr. Paine had them
outclassed as draft stock.
One of the prettiest sights on
the streets during the day was
the one-year old colt of J. C.
Vanbibber, with which he won
the first money. Mr. Walter
Paine took second money with
another very fine yearling colt.
B F. Reed was awarded first
money for the best sucking horse
colt, while John Skeene took
second money.
The largest load of ladies
brought to the city was hauled
in by Ben Bragg and he secured
the $5.00 in gold. Mr. Bragg
only had 15 ladies in his wagon
and the winning of this money
with this small number was an
easy trick, as there was only the-
The First Christian Church
has installed a new organ at
their place of worship and used
the new instrument for the first
time last Sunday. This improve-
ment is very much appreciated
by the members of this church,
and The News is requested to
thank all those who oontributed
to the organ fund and made its
purchase possible.
We take this method of thank-
ing the people of the White-
Priddy community for the ex-
ceptionally nice and cordial
treatment accorded us during
our stay in their neighborhood
when we were constructing the
home of Uncle Pete Coe and at-
tending to some other smaller
jobs. Anything else that the
good people ever need which we
can do for them in the way of
carpenter work, we will be more
than glad to attend to it for them
and assure the people of this
community that they can always
get the very best that we “have
in the shop.

TRADE DAY WAS
A BIG SUCCESS; for the best sucking mule colt
Last Saturday, July 3, was
trade day in Nocona and the day
opened clear and warm. Early
in the day large crowds began
to gather on the streets and by
two o’clock in the afternoon the
business district was full of
people. Some of the finest
horses, mules and colts ever ex-
hibited in this section were
entered in the contest for the
cash premiums. Trade was
good with all the business houses
and all are convinced that these
trade days, properlj' managed
can do much for our little city.
The premium list prepared for
the day was not exactly what it
should have been; the weather
was entirely too warm for the
farmers to bring in cattle and
hogs, but new premiums were
arranged on the streets, giving
a prize, first and second money
to the best sucking colt. Messrs.
C. E. Quillin, S. L. McCool and
Pete Bond acted as judges for
the distribution and and award-
the premiums, and it
