PRESIDENT'S COLUMN z Wow, have we reached the lazy days of summer! When you receive this we should be having a Summer Institute, with our own Patricia Law Hatcher and Lloyd de Witt Bockstruck speaking on the subject "Land and Court - Special Topics", which will help complete your genealogical education. Earlier in the year, your board voted to have four large newsletters a year. In the examination of the Bylaws, we discovered that our "founding fathers" defined the DGS newsletter as the communication between the Society and its members. So we have modified our earlier Newsletter schedule to four large newsletters and at least four small newsletters a year. This is the first large newsletter under that change. We are trying to be very efficient with your membership dollars. We have had several postage and paper cost increases over the last few years. Soon we will be able to put the newsletter on the web, and you will be able to help the Society save mailing costs by electing to download your Newsletter. You will be notified when that becomes a possibility. Have you been to the library lately? The microfiche project led by Shirley Sloat is proceeding very well, and new microfiche for most states is being processed. We expect to complete this project this year. We are constantly trying to make the Dallas Public Library a better genealogical library. Have you considered going on the Salt Lake Trip? This year the group will stay at the Plaza Hotel right across from the Family History Library in Salt Lake. Whatever you are researching, you can do it in-depth there. We
always have fun as a group. Novice researchers can schedule a session with Janet Khashab and/or me on how to prepare for your first trip there, probably about the first week of August. If this is your first trip to Salt Lake, please circle that you are a first-timer. That will flag us that we need to get with you to give some direction on how to prepare.
