Our people have been aroused
.and will take more interest in
the future. tnfact the response
•was so general that the very few
who refused to help have made
themselves conspicius and are
well known to their neighbors.
We went "over the top" with
•our 9200.00, apportionment and
raised a little more than $100.00
for our local work.
We , have added 33 new mem-
bers to oilir local chapter during
.this camDaian.
Swensop has just started on
this work but will be heard from
again before many moons.

Knitting
The women of this Chapter
have been told to knit 120 prs.
of socks & 32 sweaters by Oct.
1st. Those of our men who are
serving in France, upon the seas
and in the air will know no sum-
mer "weather, and now, when
they are being called in ever in-
creasing numbers to serve us,
let us not fail to serve them.
Come to the District Court
room Friday at 3 o'clock and
join the Knitting Club, if you
have needles bring them along.
Mesdames Forrester, Lowr.y,
Zant and Meador will be there
to teach you—also anyone wish-
ing to knit may see Miss Millie
Avery.
The Red Cross juniors thank
Mr- Myers and Charley Spruill
for the nice lemonade which
they served to them, also the
"old ladies" want to thank
Chariie for the ice water.
The proceeds from the blind
boys entertainment at the court
house last Saturday night was a
little better than $60.00.
Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Rollins
left Tuesday for Leon Springs
to visit their son, Hyder, who is
in training at that place.

the War Savings Campaign, and so materially aided
in making a success of it.
1 realize just what you have done, because I have
read carefully each issue of The Star which came to
me, and I am in position to appreciate your splendid
assistance.
Yours is the brand of patriotism which expresses
itself in effective service, and is a pledge to the Presi-
dent which has been most loyally filled. Your help has
made big results possible, and I am proud to know
thai I have had such assistance as you and The Star.
Yours very sincerely,
LOUIS lipsitz

To The People of
Stonewall County
And of Those Pares of Adjacent
County Where Ever the Mat-
ter Below Has Been
Circulated
I wish to correct a false report
which has been manufactured
and circulated by certain par-
ties.
It is this—' That I had neither
bought Liberty Honds or War
Savings Stamps, nor had I aided
the Red Cross organization."
This report is a wilful, coward-
ly and malicious falsehood made
and circulated by a wilful, cow-
ardly, malicious falsefier — or
rather a small group of such.
I say wilful, because it wss of
their own desire and volition;
cowardly, because they did it in
a secret manner and will not
come in the open and back it up;
and malicious, because it was
done with the sole intent to do
me a personal injury among my
countrymen and to satisfy a re-
vengeful spirit in themseives to-
ward me.
I have examined the Tax Roll
of oar county and compared the
taxable values of forty tax pay-
ers whose tax valuation was
nearly equal to and equal to and
greater than my own valuation
and foirnd that twelve of
had bought ni> bonds
bonds as I~when
amount of bonds bought with:
their tax valuation. And I ami
the only man of whom they have:
made and circulated this report.;
They have learned that 1 knew:
they have made and circulated'
this report and now they try to
clear the wse Ives by telling that'
they did not know that I had;
done these things. Every one!
of them see me almost every days
and none of them have ever
asked me if I had done theie
things before making their re-;
port, nor have they had the man-:
hood to come to me and even of-
fer such a rediculous excuse.
I am ashamed that I feel that
1 owe myself this public denial
of these charges for it is my cus-
tom to ignore a liar; but there
are so many pebple now in our
country who are not acquainted
with me and owing to our coun-
try being at war and the extra-
ordinary feelings relative to
matters spoken of above. I be-
lieve I owe myself and my faau*
ly and the citizenship of
country to brand this
with its true brand—"A wi!
cowardly, malicious lie."
