DGS member Bill Benson has generously donated his professional architectural services to the
Expansion Project, and his preliminary floor plan is reproduced on the reverse side of this page.
In order to implement this proposed expansion, DGS has set a Capital Expansion Fund goal of
$150,000.00. (This figure does not include minimal remodeling costs yet to be determined.) The Society
will raise these funds from a variety of sources. Profits from the DGS Summer Lecture Series and Fall
Salt Lake City Research Tour have already been earmarked for the Expansion Fund, as have profits from
the Society's sale of the Genealogy Section Card Catalog on Microfiche. Over $1,000 was raised this
summer through the sale of microfiche readers donated by Coda Energy of Dallas. Other fundraising
projects currently under consideration include: A spring research tour to Salt Lake City featuring Lloyd
Bockstruck; low-cost microfilming services for DGS members; a limited-edition art work, signed &
numbered by the artist; the sale of 3 different models of Dukane microfilm readers at a significant savings
to purchasers; a travel/hotel package for the NGS conference in Houston (an idea suggested by DGS
member Mary Johnson); and a "Private Evening of Research" in the Genealogy Section of the Dallas
Public Library. (News regarding these projects will be announced in the DGS Newsletter.)
In addition to our own fundraising projects, DGS will seek funding from foundations, corporations
and philanthropic individuals in the Dallas area. But, by far, our most meaningful contributions will come
from you. The financial support of Genealogy Section patrons, both DGS members and non-members, is
vital to the success of the project. This may be the single most important financial investment you can
make in your own genealogical research, and it will pay dividends for years to come. (On completion of
the Capital Expansion Project, fundraising projects initiated for the CEP will continue, resulting in a
significant increase in DGS's annual gift for materials acquisition.) Please give thoughtful consideration to
your DGS Capital Expansion Fund gift. Your donation is tax-deductible and may be made in a lump sum
or, if you prefer, you may make a pledge to the Fund and pay it in installments. In planning your pledge
payments, please keep in mind that placement of orders for furniture and equipment will begin in April,
1994.
Names of all donors (but not the amount of their donations) will be published in the DGS Newsletter.
Those who donate or fulfill a pledge for $100 or more will have their names inscribed on a permanent
display to be placed in the Genealogy Section. As soon as prices are finalized, a "Furniture & Equipment
Registry" will be compiled and made available. This list will include items of furniture and equipment
with prices for each. If you would like to "buy" a specific piece, your name (or any other name you wish)
will be affixed permanently to that item. The Registry will be available at the DGS Desk and will also be
published in the DGS Newsletter. If you would like a copy of the Registry mailed to you, please send a
stamped, self-addressed envelope to the above address. (Write the word "Registry" in the lower left-hand
corner of your SASE.)
In books lies the soul of the whole past time.
