meeting in Paris. It was decided
hereafter to hold four meetings
a year, and the next one will be
held July 4th with the Red River
county carriers at Detroit.
A resolution was adopted, ask-
ing the county commissioners
court to avail themselves of the
opportunity to lease convicts
from the state to work the roads.
A resolution was also adopted
memorializing the legislature to
enact a law to permit all of the
short term state convicts to be
put on work on public roads jn

The Deport Cornett Band gave
a concert and ice cream supper
at their band stand Tuesday
evening. A large crowd was
present and they netted about
$10 from the sale of cream,
which will go toward paying for
the band stand. Under the in-
structions of a director the boys
are making splendid progress
and are playing some high class
music.
The new Livery and Sales

A Pittsburg hubby is congrat-
ulating himself that his wife no
longer goes through his pockets
in search of change. A small
rubber snake placed in his trous-
ers pocket did the work, and

to his friends it has been almost
impossible to supply the demand

An arrest was madt» a few
I days ago upon charges out of the
ordinary in this country, when
J. E. Ross, a white man .said to
be a blacksmith at Bogata, was
brought in by the local constable
and turned over to the sheriff’s
department.
Deputy Sheriff Puckett states
that the Constable arrested the
man for beating his own babe,
I six or seven months old, to death.
■J The Constable stated that the
— man beat the child with his hand
and that when his wife, the'
3 mother of the child, attempted
■ to interfeare, her hands werg
beaten until they were black.
The child died last Wednesday
and was buried Thursday and
the man was arrested Friday.—
