She was born m Detroit.

the only daughter of James
Louis and Alice Smith Roach
She graduated frwK Detroit
High Sc hool in 1918? and in
1920 rharried Roy Edwin
Latimer of Detroit who
prt'ci'ded her in death in 1935
She w as a member of the First
Baptist Church in Detroit for
twenty five years and later
lived for a few years each in
Clarksville and Paris
In 1950 she moved to
Donna. Texas where she
earned a Bac helor a Degree
from Pan American University
and taught school in the Rio
Grande Valley for many years
During that time, she became
a charier member of the Pan
American Alumni Society and
received an Honorary PTA
Ben Coker, the new Detroit
High School Principal, is back
home again, when* he always
w antis! t<> Im*
He was raised in the
country approximately three
miles south of Pans on route 3
and just this year, purchased
and moved into a charming
old two story 1 hitch Colonial
house in Marvin. Texas,
which is only about three
miles from where he was b<»rn
and raised
And he is glad to fie back,
back to the small town life of
North East Texas where hl* in
lived on s more human scale,
where he could relate to his
students ns people instead of
as shts-r numljcrs He moved
from Terrell Texas, where for
the past nine years be was the
Vocational Ag Teacher and
head of the Ag Department,
to his new j<4> as Pnncipal of
the smaller Detroit High
School, where he feels right at
home
Ben was lx>m 32 years ago
on August 21. 194M, the ninth
child of mm- children born to
Sarn and Palijo” (Polly
Joanna) Coker Sam and Palijo
were l>oth liorn in Hunt
County and moved to Lamar
County in 1939 Mr Coker is
deceased, but Mrs Coker now
lives m Pans with Ben s oldest
sister Marpe Coke*
