TEXAS-PR E-SS' ASS
AUSTIN —Texas' veterans
Sand program, derailed since
late 1965, is back o the
track again.
According to Land Com-
missioner Jerry Sitdler, sale
of 530,000,000 in bonds is
slated for December 19.
Bonds are expected to be de-
liverd around January 25.
Money then will be available
to buy land for state veter-
ans.
At the November 11 elec-
tion. Texans voted favorably
for a constitutional amend-
ment authorizing sale of an
additional S200million in bonds
for the program. Amendment
also expanded the program
to include veterans who serv-
ed in Vietnam, as well as
Korea and World War II. Ex-
servicemen have spent S242,-
000,000 to buy 3,000,000 acres
of land under the program
since it was first authorized
m 1946.
Qualified veterans now can
borrow up to $10,000. Mini-
mum amount of land that can
be bought is 15 acres. Maxi-
mum interest rate on bonds
is four and a half per cent.
Purchasers of land have 40
years to repay state loans. A
five per cent down payment
an about $150 in legal and
appraisal fees is necessary to
Hose a loan.

Later last week, Martin
and two assistants argued a
Permian Basin gas rate case
before the U.S. Supreme

the 14.5 cent rate for gas dis-

inadequate to support the ex-
ptoratiun program to sustain
industry vitality. Loss of tax
revenue due to rate proposed
by the Federal Power Com-
missioa also would seriously
affect the state, the attorney
