no matter what the Maidens do.
They play at Pine Tree in the regu-
lar season finale and can win the
crown by beating the Lady Pirates,
if Carthage loses to Kilgore.
"If we beat Kilgore, we win
district and get a bi-district bye no
matter what Jacksonville does,"
athletic director Sleepy Reynolds
explained Monday.
"In that event we wouldn't know
who, where or when we would play
until after bi-district rounds are
completed, but it would be around
Lady Dog jvs

the 18th of February, somewhere in
there. If we don't beat Kilgore,
well play bi-district next week
against a team from down in the
Port Arthur area."
Allison had a really rare triple
double against Whitehouse with 27
points, 10 assists and 11 steals. She
was also a team leader with four
rebounds.
Cara Cockrell was the only
other player in the game to score in
double digits as she collected 10
for Carthage.
Ut was a blowout from start to
finish. The Lady Wildcats couldn't
handle the pressure of the Carthage
defense and scored just eight points
in the first three quarters, none in
the first when Carthage went ahead
16-0.
Melissa Ingram bad three goals
tn the opening stanza for six points
and Allison tossed in two for five
points.
By halftime Allison had col-
lected nine points and Cockrell,
coming off the bench, had begun to
heat things up. Finally the visitors
broke the scoring ice with goals by

Lindsay Bland scored 14 points
and Quintina Williams 10 as
Carthage junior varsity girls bat-
tered Whitehouse, 42-16. Carthage
allowed just three goals in the first
three periods to build a 29-6 lead.
Whitehouse tried to catch up by l
putting the Lady Dogs on the line
nine times in the last half. They an-
swered that strategy by knocking
down 13 of their last 17 in a
shooting clinic.

cape the 17-AAAA cellar.
The schedule affords the Dawgs
a chance to do any or all of the
above. Bagley's troops face fourth
place Kilgore, last place Hallsville
and sixth place Henderson re-
maining games of the 1999-2000
campaign. Kilgore and Henderson
beat Carthage by a total of 10
points, collectively. Hallsville lost
47-30.
The Dawgs have played numer-
ous 17-AAAA games close to the
vest but the encounter with While-
house here Friday was not one of
them; the Wildcats took a 59-40
rout to press on toward a pl. yoff
berth.
It was the Dawgs' second largest
margin of defeat this season in a
district game Previously they took
Whilehouse to the wixxlsbed be-
fore losing 38-36.
With three games remaining in
regular season, the Wildcats have a
two-game lead over Chapel Hill
and Kilgore, and trail second place
Pine Tree by only one. __
The Wildcats trailed 33-31 at
halftime when they repaired to the
dressing room for an altitude ad-
justment and a rearrangement of
their X's and O's.
In the Inst half, Carthage man-
aged just seven points, four in the
third quar ter, three in the fourth, as
Whitehouse rolled on smootnly and
pvllcd away. Ibc Cats had 28 over
the final 16 minutes, four Utnes the
Carthage total. I

So far the Lady Dogs haven't
been able to shake Jacksonville in
the title run, but they bold the tie
breaker, having beaten the Maidens
twice in district competition. If
Carthage beats Kilgore on the road
in the season finale, it wins the title
superb 119-46 mark including four
seasons of 20 wins or more.
Tuesday the Lady Dogs put
themselves in position for a fifth
championship as they racked up a
