Planning aroad is like* planning o pciric®
If you drive a car, you need highways: modern
highways you can ride without worries about
sharp curves, steep grades, narrow bridges,
rock-slide areas and other hazards. You enjoy
country you might never see if highways didn't
take you there. Congestion? Modern highways
are traffic decongestants, making traveling easier
and faster. Ecology ? Note the careful drainage
and landscaping: the grassy embankments, the
shrubbery and trees for soil conservation plus
esthetic appeal. So planning a road is like plan-
ning a park. An extra-safe one. If you're safety-
minded, you'll want America's 200,000 miles of
obsolete primary highways modernized. And
citizens like you can get it done. How? Talk to
your local highway officials. The safer, more
pleasant your highways are to drive on . . . and
the more they blend in with the countryside
... the better.
