Two Accidents
During April
The Texas Highway Patrol
investigated two accidents on
rural highways in Stonewall
County during the month of
April, according to Sergeant
Frank Jircik, Highway Patrol
supervisor of this area.
These crashes resulted in no
persons killed and no persons
injured.
The rural traffic accident
summary for this county during
the first four months of 1973
shows a total of 12 accidents
resulting in one person killed
and three persons injured.
The rural traffic accident
summary for the 60 counties of
the Lubbock Department of
Public Safety, Region No. 5, for
April, 1973, shows a total of 544
accidents resulting in 24 per-
sons killed and 283 persons
injured as compared to April,
1972 with 445 accidents resulting
in 44 persons killed and 232
persons injured. This was 99
more accidents, 20 less
fatalities and 51 more injuries in
1973 at the same period of time.
The veteran officer reminds
you that the accident rate has
increased about 20 percent in
the 60 counties of Region No. 5.
We have more than seven
million licensed drivers on
Texas Highways Summer
vacation time is approaching
and more people will be using
the roads.
The 24 traffic deaths for the
month of April, 1973 occurred in
the following counties: Crosby,
Hockley, Lubbock, Lynn and
Sherman, two each, and Clay,
Floyd, Garza, Gray, Hartley,
Oldham, Palo Pinto, Parker,
Potter, Randall, Terry,
Wichita, Wise and Wheeler, one
each.

Get McMurry
Degree Sun.
George Abernathy of
Aspermont is among 211 Mc-
Murry College students
receiving degrees at the May 20
commencement exercises.
Dr. David Maxwell of A & M
University is scheduled to
speak.
Of the members of the
graduating class, 186 are from
Texas. The remaining are from
other states.
Mr. Abernathy, whose
parents are Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Abernathy of Asper-
mont, will receive a bachelor of
Science degree with a major in
Animal Science.
Light rains here on Sunday
and Monday are halting farm
work for a while.
The Fun Festival at Old Glory
School last Thursday drew a
good crowd. Nice prizes
donated by the merchants in
neighboring towns helped to
make the event a success.
Old Glory seniors have
completed major arrangements
for their class trip, which they
feel promises to be an out-
standing one.
The group will leave O. G.
Thursday, May 24, and travel to
San Antonio. The nest day they
will board a Mexicana Jet 727
and arrive in Mexico City later
in the day.
They plan three days in
Mexico City and area, and
perhaps will spend a day or two
in San Antonio on their return

High School Commencement
exercises will be held on Thurs-
day evening May 17, at 8:00
p.m., and the graduation
program for the eighth grade
will be Friday, May 18, at 8:00
p.m.
The Old Glory Variety Club
enjoyed a meeting in the home
of Mrs. Allen Letz May 1 with 12
members present. Then on
Tuesday, May 8, they met in the
home of Mrs. Garrett Spitzer,
with nine members present.
The group enjoyed refresh-
ments and games at both
meetings.
Mrs. Travis will host the next
meeting in her home Tuesday,
May 22.
The following ladies attended
a quilting in the home of Mrs.
Katie Gerloff Monday of last
week: Mmes. August Balzer,
Louise Stegemoeller, both of
Sagerton, also Mmes. Tony
Letz, Clif Gholson, and Emma
Klump.
Jack Gerloff of Lubbock spent
last Wednesday night here with
his mother, Mrs. Katie Gerloff.

Happy Birthday this week
will be extended to our Mrs.
Adele Dudensing, who is
presently a patient in Teakwood
Manor in Stamford. Mrs.
Dudensing will observe a birth-
day Friday, May 18.
Mrs. Bernice White visited in
Lubbock over the weekend with
her daughter Judy White, and
on Saturday attended a bridal
shower given in Judy's honor in
the home of Mrs. Gerald
Henderson. Judy is the bride-
elect of Don McDonald of
Lubbock. They plan to be
married June 2.
Mr. and Mrs. B. ft. Johnson
were in Abilene Saturday,
wheie they met and visited with
their daughter-in-law, Mrs.

grandchildren, Russell and
Racheal, Mrs. Glen Johnson
and children are present living
in San Antonio, but when school
is out, they will go to Panama to
join Col. Johnson who is
stationed there with the U. S.
Air Force.
In Borger
Joseph Anion Harvey, 67, of
Borger, brother of Leon Harvey
of Aspermont, died Monday in
Borger after a long illness.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wed-
nesday in the McCoy Funeral
Home Chapel in Aspermont.
The Rev. Ray Rice, minister
of the Aspermont Church of-
ficiated. Burial was in Asper-
mont Cemetery.
Born Nov. 26,1905, in Anson,
he had lived at Borger since,
about 1944.
