Animals Take
Intramural Top
By taking five first places
and several second and thirds,
the Animals proved to be the
outstanding Intramural track
and field team Friday, May 14,
1965. High point man for the
Animals was iSteve Heron with
10% points. Steve ran on the
winning 440 relay team, won
the 50 yard dash, and placed
second in the broad jump. Run-
ner-up for high point honors
was Tommy Sikes of the Bulls
with 9 Mn points, followed by
Gary Hitch of the Animals with
8 points.
Since no Intramural track
and field records could be found,
all winning times and distances
of this meet will be declared
records and future participants
will have them to officially
compete against.
Probably the outstanding in-
dividual performance was the
47' 3" heave of the 16 lb. shot
by Wayne Rathke. However, the
feature attraction was the open
class mile run which Joe
Dowda won uncontested in the
fine time of 6:51.?.

opening its doors to not only
P.E. majors and minors, but to
anyone else interested in sports
and all hpysical activities.

Head Football Coach Joe
James has said "with the com-
bination of the new boys com-
ing up and the old boys, I
think we're going to have a lot
better ball club this year. How-
ever, it is the concensus of the
coaches that the Lone Star Con-
ference is going to be stronger
this year than ever before in
the history of the Conference."
"But," said James, "if we get
the same effort out of these kids
that twe got last year, we'll
have a fine ball club. One of
the main things that will de-
termine the winner — is the
number of injuries that the
team suffers during the sea-
son."
Up to this time 14 new play-
ers have been signed up. They
are as follows:
Gary Burleson, DeLeon, quar-
terback, 5'10", 170 pounds.
Bill Dees, Ballinger, end,
6'2", 190 pounds.
