IJiMlylf Writer
Saturday is shaping up as an exciting day for a young
Port Lavaca woman Two theater productions in which
she is actively involved will go before the critics that day
"Actually, it will begin Friday night when the latest
production of Calhoun Civic Theatre opens,” she said
"Then, Saturday morning, there will be two performances
1 have produced for a children's theater, and another
performance by the civic theater that night "
Cindy Luxhoj, 24, is the young woman, but don't look for
her on either stage. She won't be there, unless you count
the voice of a puppet she will do for the Children's Classic
Theatre when "The Witch in the Woods" is presented at
two county libraries
“I'm the cow,” Cindy, who is tall and slender, said with
a grin.
A Port Lavaca resident for little more than a year, the
native of Oregon has a broad background in drama that
began, no pun intended, abroad
“My Dad is retired from Alcoa now, but while he was
still with the company we lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and
Brussels. Belgium ” (Her parent* are Mr and Mrs Anton
Library Saturday at *30 am then repeated at Ute
library in Seadrift an hour later The second perferasdMe
of the cmc theater is scheduled that taght with two etere
coming up next weekend
These last few days have been pretty boay CWy
said
It s a nice way to say goodbye to the community i he has
called home for a year she added smee she kt
moving to Fort Worth in early November
"My boyfnend lives there, she explained
She leeves behind the hope that more people herwjMI
take an interest in the erne theater
Culturally acting a a way to express yourself and M's
an escape. " but working behind the scenes a a way of
expression too ”
"The cmc theater here has a core of dedKated people
and there are lots of people at tryouts but its a probtan
getting backstage help she said "The cast lauaDy ends
up doing most of the work."
She added. "For those who enjoy drama coming to a
community where there is Little Theatre gives ta a ptace
to go where there will be others who share our interests, a
place where we know in advance we will have a common
bond I hope tha one continues to be a success "
It's 'pretty busy' behind stage scene
Luxhoj - pronounced looks-hoy — of Port l^avaca I
■I went to high school in Belgium and they had a really
active drama group there 1 love working with my hands
so I started working with the construction crew and set 1
also was assistant stage manager and manager of some of
the productions "
But she never acted
’’I guess I’ve always been scared to actually act. but I
hope to eventually,” Cindy admitted “I did take a part in
the readers’ theater that the civic theater had here some
time ago. and I have filled in for others at rehearsals
"I had gotten my courage up to audition for the play that
opens Friday too. but I had just taken a job and couldn t
make rehearsals By the time I was free, the parts were
cast "
Cindy was managing editor for a local weekly until it
closed operations recently
She has settled for being publicity chairman for The
Creature Creeps, the comedy now being produced by the
Little Theatre group, while simultaneously acting as set
director and producer of the children s drama
The horror spoof she has publicized will have its first
performance at 8 p m Friday at Madison School The
children's drama will be shown at Calhoun County
