problem children come from big
cities. The parents of these chil-
dren have changed the location
but no one ever has dealth with
the problem of whv this child

Mrs. Barrientos stated that
the problem could get much
worse before it gets better.
Mrs. Barrientos stated that,
"If parents and the community
work together these problem
children can be dealth with. Ev-
eryone needs to b able to in-

of hand".
It seems that P.l.S.D. has
taken steps to slow down and
eliminate the juvenile trouble so
that students learn from their
teachers. An education is what

Pearsall-Superintendent
John P. Kelly has received the
cooperation of Pearsall Mayor
Victor Vinton. The Mayor has
established a procedure with the
Pearsall Public Department
whereby officers can issue tick-
ets to students for disorderly
conduct, the fine is approximate-
ly $150.
Having police issue tickets is a
procedure that Mayor Vinton
has learned is working in the Dil-
ley Independent School District.
Since it is very effective in the
Dilley schools the Mayor and
Superintendent Kelly thought
(hai this would help control the
current rash of fights in the
Pearsall school district.
According to Pearsall Junior
High Principal Barrientos the
schtxil has taken a pro-active
role. Students have been told
that caps, colored items and oth-
er material that identify a child
with a group (gang) will not be
tolerated.
Vice principal Victor Vinton
has met with students and their
parents and discussed remedies
that will help both the student
and the parent stop the students
dissobedience. Judges, police
officers and the superintendent
talked with both the parents
and the students.
The Junior High has taken
steps to prevent a recurrence of
the violent clash that left live
youngsters stabbed. Recently
when two students fought at the
Junior High the student popula-
tion had the class and meal times
slowed down. Only small groups
of students were allowed in the
hallways at any one time.

wheeler attempted to run the
pursing units off the highway,
when Webb County units
reached LaSalle County they
turned back. LaSalle County-
then attempted to stop the IX
wheeler using tear gas pellets,
had been used in a similar situa-
tion before. The IX wheeler blew
past laSallc County units and
proceeded towards Frio County.

Mrs. Barrientos stated that
the officers would only issue-
tickets after they were called by
school officials. The parents of
these unruly students could be
fined as much as $150.
Mrs. Barrientos stales that
teachers are being asked to me-
diate instead of teaching.
"School is for learning but teach-
ers need to teach (which is how
they arc funded) instead of me-
diating s(x.ial problems".
Mrs. Barrientos mentioned
that Mr. Vinton was being pre-
sented with alot of parental de-
nial about their child’s mis-
