Pearsall's Lady Mavs gave
the Carrizo Springs' Lady Wildcats
all they could handle in a hard
fought, close gamc-but they still
came up short in a 49-52 loss. The
tough loss places the Lady Mavs in
a three way tic for second place in
District 26 AAA with Carrizo
Springs and Jourdanton.
Coach Bender said after the de-
feat, "Wc had every chance to win.
Wc put the ball up 66 times and
scored on only 18 for a poor 27
In a game that was eventually
decided on the free throw line, the
Lady Mavs lost a close game with
the Poteet Agates, 42-46. Poteet
was 9 of 17 for 53 percent on the
line, while Pearsall was 2 of 8 for a
poor 25 percent. The Lady Mavs
were only down by one point, 42-
43, with only 21 seconds left on the
clock, but their shots just would not
fall. With the loss went the hopes
for the Lady Mavs to be the district
champions. Pearsall will now have
to try to hang on to second place for

a shot at the playoffs.
"I am proud of the effort the
Lady Mavs gave in the game,"
Coach Wanda Bender said "They
actually tried too hard As a result,
their passes were overthrown, they
were not relaxed on their shots,
especially their free throws. Wc
need to cut down on our turnovers,
make our free throws, and not have
the break-downs in our defense that
we had in the Poteet game to make
the play-offs and then do well in the
play-offs."
