The Conservation compliance
section of the Food Security Act of
1985 discourages the production of
crops on highly credible cropland
unless the land is protected from
erosion with an approved conser-
vation system The Soil Conserva-
tion Service (SCS) makes highly
erodiblc land determinations and
provides technical information for
alternatives for conservation sys-
tems that help farmers protect crop-
land from erosion If you produce
crops on highly credible fields vv ith-
out an approved conservation sys-
tem, you risk losing your eligibility
for all USDA program benefits
Conservation compliance applies
to all highly erodiblc land where
annual tilled crops arc grown
Noncommercial production of ag-
ricultural commodities on less than
two acres is not sub ject to conserva-
tion compliance
People with a conservation plan
approved before January 1. 1990
have until December 31. 1994 to
implement the conservation plan
on highly erodiblc cropland Plant-
ing land that did not have any crops
planted between 1981 and 1995
still requires a conservation plan
prior to planting. These plans

plied the first ycarthc land is planted
