demands made upon St. Philip's
the original 1916 site with the
several frame buildings was not long
to serve the purpose. Enlarged addi-
tional facilities and equipment were
imperative. A chapel and a refectory
were the first buildings added. In the
spring of 1927 the Rev. Rolfe P. Crum,
rector of St. Mark's Church, conducted
a local campaign to which were sub-
scribed sufficent funds for the renova-
tion and erection of the first unit of
the Bishop Johnston Memorial build-
ing. The added impetus which these
additions gave the work was indicated
by the community's demand for a Jun-
ior College.THE years have seen its growth - not the spec-
tacular springing up of the little gourd vine,
but rather the slow and steady maturing of
the oak to which it clung.
