Annual Parker
Thanksgiving Held
by Family Reporter
Virginia and Weldon Timer
were again hosts for the an-
nual Parker Thanksgiving get-
together which began some 21
years ago for the family of the
late Eargle and Grace Parker.
The cold, sleet and snow
did cause some problems for
travel for the families from
Granbury. They made it to
Stephenville and then decided
to turn back to the safety
of their homes. As it turned
out, thirty family members
and guest enjoyed the plentiful
food, fun and fellowship at the
Turner residence on FM RD
2247.
As in years past, Sue Ormsby
provided the delicious turkey

Spanish Letter
Seeks Brother
A letter addressed only to the High School Band Hall on 6th at 2:00 p.m.
Box 749, Comanche, Tbxas Monday, December 6th at 7:00 ---------
76442 arrived at The Co-
manche Chief Monday morn-
ing.
The letter which was written
in Spanish, was from Valentin
de la Cruz Martinez, in Acuna,
Mexico.
He was writing to his brot-
her, Amparo. No last name
was mentioned.
Since the letter was ad-
to be held ht H&H Ranch
between Navasota and Hemp-
stead.... and carried more than
one coat and sweater... and
walking shoes.
We were not alone in that
Wednesday traffic. It appeared
that all vehicles were headed
toward College Station and
that pre-game bon fire that
as the football game the next fr°m Wednesday’s warm
day.
Speed limit in Thxas? Who

and the wind was out of the
north. The norther was behind
us... but on the way.
A telephone call relieved
anxiety..."Yee , we are here...
and that was* right" on'targwt’. and get ready, thenorther is

my act together before Corky A8P0
showed up Wednesday at 11:00

The youngsters confined mo-

ice covered deck adjoining the
house.
Those attending from Co-

Goforth; Carol, Britni, and
Courtni Farley; Jim, Nancy,
Thylor, and Emily Abbey;
Melody, Danny, and Arik Hun-
ter Yates and Miles and Mal-

De Leon visitors were Jan-

Simpson of Lubbock; Bobby
Charles, Connie and Bobby
James Simpson of Little Rock,
Arkansas, who will soon be
moving to Washington to be a
member of President Clinton’s
staff.

Comanche.
There are things to check
at the ranch, so I joined Billy
Pete and we went to a hay
field. He counted the round
bales lined up by the fence.
I enjoyed the side roads and
autumn foliage in the Brazos
river bottom. An osprey flew
over the rural lane we were
traveling... looking for a meal
to warm its body on that chilly
day.
Later I joined B.P. again
and we went to White Hall for
batteries. It was the original
capitol of Thxas before it was
moved to Washington-on-the-
Brazos/ when Tbxas was an
independent Republic.
I enjoyed seeing the great-
grandchildren making Christ-
mas ornaments for the big
Christmas tree... already up in
the lobby of the barn. They
chose to outline every fam-
ily member’s initials with glue
and glitter... making loops to
encircle the tree.... low enough
on the branches they could
read their art work.
Corky and I make an early
departure Saturday morning
and were in Comanche before
noon. The traffic was light...
everyone waiting until Sunday
to make their return trip.
After church Sunday I went
to the grocery store and
coming back home I counted
sixteen cars before a traffic
break allowed me a chance to
get on Moorman Road again.
But that was to be expected.
"Happy Thanksgiving” was
on my telephone answering
service when I looked at the
winking red light. It was
brother, W.D.Dukes, calling
from his lake-side home at
Tyler.
The weather forecast is: rain
this week-end. I’ll get out my dressed only to our box, The
Old Farmer’s Almanac and see (----
if it agrees on the prediction. ,
My Christmas list has been
taken care of... and I’ll be (
ready... <
