The Jewish Theological Seminary of America has main-
tained a campus in Jerusalem since 1962, an important
academic center for bringing Israelis and Americans to-
gether. It also operates a world-famous research library,
the Schocken Institute, in Jerusalem.
Few people are aware, however, how significantly Semi-
nary faculty members and scholars in Israel contribute to
that country’s progress. Some examples: they serve in lead-
ing academic posts . . . help shape educational practices . . .
join their Israeli counterparts in major projects of scholar-
ship like the production of a 50-volume concordance to the
Babylonian Talmud.
The Seminary’s involvement has sparked growing interest
in Conservative Judaism. There are now 30 Conservative
congregations in Israel, linked in the Mesorati movement,
which the Seminary assists financially.
