Mrs. Schunior was absent from
school some days last week on ac-
The S. D. Booster Club, which has
been organized for some time and
whose principles and objectives are
to foster and promote civic and so-
cial activities for the welfare of San
Diego, has recently purchased and
added equipment for the recreation
of its members.
Equipment that has been purcha-
sed is the following: a set of boxing
gloves, basket ball,ping pong equip-
ment, and ten tables.

of education of San Diego High
School, the school now boasts a
new bus that was bought Saturday,
February 15, from the Internatio-
nal Motor Company at Alice, Tex-
as. Its color is orange, and it can
carry from forty to fifty passengers.
For a long time the school had
been needing a bus to be used for
the athletic teams, for the Future
Farmers of America, and other ne-
cessary trips that will be made by
teachers and students.
It is thought that the athletic^
teams will have more spirit in visit--, been initiated into the club are the

interested in its trips to the farms
and meetings. The school says that
this will not be the last evidence

The South Texas Division .of the
Texas State Teachers’ Association
i met in Harlingen this year on Fe-
bruary 14 and 15.
The general theme of the meet-
ing was about “Making South Tex-
as Schools Worthy of Their Tradi-
tions and Opportunities.”
Mr. B. A. Trevino, Physical Edu-
cation instructor in the San Diego
Public Schools, was elected chair-
man of the Health and Physical
Education Section of the South
Texas Division of the TSTA for
this year’s meeting. The theme that
he has used in formulating this pro-
gram was: “Health and Physical
Education for Spanish Speaking

The Boy Scouts of Troop 45 at-
tended a court of honor held in Ali-
ce, Texas, at the high school audi-
torium on February 12, 1936.
The court of honor was held for
the purpose of handing out Scout
badges and passing tests. A pro-
gram was held, and than the badges
were awarded.
Among the Scouts from Troop
44 to receive second class badges
are Raymond Acebo, Raul Garcia,
Pete Gonzalez, Aaron Grubb, Car-
los' Ibanez, William and Walter
McPherson, Joel Pena, Alberto To-
bin, Danny Tobin, Antonio Tobin,
and Paul Perez.
In all there were two tenderfoot,
21 second class, two first class, 2
stars, and four life scouts at the
court of honor.
There were also a number of me-
rit badges handed out.
New Teacher

Francisco Canas, and Tomas Moli-
na. The club has planned to give
its first dance on April 25, with the
Texas Hearts’ Delight Radio Or-
chestra from San Antonio. A big
affair is being planned for the occa-
sion by the committee in charge.
At the club’s last meeting it was
agreed to send a young lady repre-
sentative from the club to the Was-
hington Annual Celebration to be
held at Laredo, Texas, February
22, 1936.
An invitation requesting the send-
ing for a young lady delegate was

pliance with such kind request, the
club has selected Miss Lilia Gonza- 1
lez, charming daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. R. M. Gonzalez, to represent
the city and club at such celebra- i
tion.
Many high hopes are entertained
by the members of this club that
some day this club will be highly
classified in its standing in regard
to its varied upbuilding activities.
According to announcements
which have been made, Mr. F. de
Pena, principal ..of the San Diego
elementary schools, is to be married
on Friday 21, to Miss Soledad Vi-
llarreal at Monterrey, Nuevo Leon,
Mexico.
The civil ceremony is to be per-
formed at the bride’s home on 612
East Washington Street, at 9:00
A. M., and the ecclesiastical cere-
mony is to be solemnized at La Pu-
risima Church at 10:00 A. M.
After the ceremony, a reception
is to be given at La Quinta Calde-
ron.
The groom has been in the servi-
ce of the San Di^g. Public Schools^
for the last six years and has a host
of friends that wish him happiness.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Car-
los de Pena of this city.
The bride-elect is the charming
. and Mrs. Salvador
Villarreal of Monterrey, Nuevo
Le6n, Mexico. She is well know in
San Diego, having graduated from
San Diego High School in 1932 with
highest honors. She has also a host
of friends that welcome her back to
this city.
The newlyweds, after a short
trip to Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico,
and San Antonio, Texas, will re-
turn to San Diego to make their
home and where Mr. F. de* Pena
will resume his duties as Principal
of San Diego Elementary Schools.
On Tuesday, February 11, David
Garcia, President of the Senior
Class, called a class meeting to dis-
cuss the class color, class motto,
and the class flower.
Miss Camp acted as sponsor of
the meeting since Mrs. Schunior,
Senior Sponsor, was absent.
The seniors decided t o retain
their Freshmen colors, White and
Gold, ahd the daisy was chosen as
their flower. They agreed on the
following motto:
“The word “Impossible” is not
in our vocabulary.”
