Mr. J. M. Scott has returned
from a major operation in the
Plainview hospital.
Mrs. H. E. Loman was called
to Amarillo on Sunday because
of the death of a dear friend,
Mrs. R. L. Thompson.
Recent visitors in the M. M.
Smitherman home were Mr. and
Mrs. P. M. Smitherman of Floy-
dada, Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Rogers
of Albuquerque and Sid Rogers
of Amarillo.
Bernard Jackson, 49, of Hart
was killed in an auto accident
last Sunday while retqrning from
a trip to Carlsbad Caverns. Fun-
eral services were held in Tulia
on Thursday afternoon with in-
terment in the Tulia cemetery.
He is survived by his father, C.
G. Jackson of Hart and a half
brothei’ of Ohio. Bernard had liv-
ed near Hart for the past 30
years and had many friends who
mourn his passing.
Mrs. Carrie Patterson and Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Conard attended
an associational meeting of the
primitive Baptists in Amarillo ov-
er the week end.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hawkins,
Jr., spent Sunday in Canyon
where they visited her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Ford and ot-
her relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hawkins
have returned from a five week
trip to California, Mexico, Can-
ada and other states of the U S.
between these points. They visit-
ed relatives along the way. Were

Marvin Schellar is receiving
treatment in the Plains Memorial
hospital after falling from the
construction job at the Farmers "
Grain Co. Both his arms were j
broken.
Mrs. Judy Slade resigned as
English teacher in the local high
school and has accepted a posi-
tion in the Amarillo Schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Hart and
Joe Percy, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Hamm and children, and Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Wood and children at-
tended a reunion of the Hart
Family in Amarillo on Sunday.
Mesdames Worth Jones, Frank
Bauman and Royce Sanders were
in Amarillo on Friday in inter-
est of the School Lunch Room.
Randy Ray Bennett, young son
of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Bennett
is able to be home after receiving
treatment for several days in the
Memorial Hospital at Lubbock.
Misses Grace Ray and Glee
Henderson are home for a few
days with their respective par-
ents. They have attended W. T. •
S. C. at Canyon and will teach
in New Mexico.
Miss Marlene Lambert, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Lam-
bert of Plainview and Bobby Ray
Bennett of Hart were married by
Rev. J. L. Mayhew in the Metho-
dist Parsonage at Sweetwater,
Texas on August 20th. Attending
were’ Mr. and Mrs. K. E. Lam-
bert of Plainview, Mr. and Mrs.
G. R. Bennett, parents of the
groom and Mr. and Mrs. Law-
rence McLain and children of
Hart. After a ten day wedding
trip to points in Colorado and
New Mexico the young couple
will make their home at Hart
where Mr. Bennett is farming.
Tony Smitherman has returned
from a two weeks stay in the
home of his grand parents, Mr.
and Mrs. P. M. Smitherman at

A daughter was born to Mr.
and Mrs. Perry Van Vleit on
July 28th. We have not learned
the young ladies name.
On August 15th, Joe Bob San-
ders arrived in the Plainview
hospital to make his home with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Sanders. .
Little Linda' Kay Armstrong
came to the Plains Memorial
Hospital in Dimmitt on August
11 and will live with her parents
Mr. and Mrs. Deward Armstrong.
A son, James Lavance, arrived
in the Dimmitt hospital on Aug-
ust 16th to make his home with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Swindle.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Ray, Sr., re-
turned Friday from a visit with
their daughter, Mrs. Irene Scott
and family from Oklahoma.
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Jobe of
Tulia visited their daughter, Mrs.
J. L. Oler and family on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Thompson
of Big Spring spent the week end
with their son, J. E. Thompson
and wife.
Mrs. John Rice is resting nice-
ly in the Littlefield hospital after
undergoing a major operation on
Saturady morning.
Supt. and Mrs. M. M. Hastings
returned on Monday from Dallas
where they attended a reunion
of the Grounds family in a park
in Dallas. The relatives were.
those of Mrs. Hastings.
Rev. T. F. Boushey of Plain-
view has accepted the pastorate
of the local Baptist church. He
and family will remain in Plain-
view as he teaches in Wayland
college.
Nelda Ann Hacker of Herm-
leigh has returned to her home
after spending a week in the
the home of her uncle, J. E. Hac-
ker.

John L. Thomas of Dimmitt
and Rosemary Honea of Hart
were quietly married in the'home
of Rev. J. C. English in Clovis,
New Mexico on the evening of
July 24th. Mrs. Thomas has re-
sided in Hart for some months
and operates the local telephone
service. Mr. Thomas is employed
in Dimmitt by the Magnolia Ser-
vice Station. They will live in
Hart.
On July 27th Miss Teddy Hen-
sley, daughter of Rev. and Mrs.
J. C. Hensley of Hart and Dayton
E. Hacker, son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. E. Hacker of Hart were mar-
ried in Clovis. Mrs. Hacker at-
tended Hart Schools and Mr.
Hacker is a graduate of the local
school, having lived here most of
his life. They will reside at Hart
where he is employed as a road
contractor by the County Com-
missioner.
On July 25th, Mr. and Mrs. W.
E. Pendleton, Jr., and daughter,
Jo Ann who have been in the U.
S. Army service in Japan and
Sgt. Robert Pendleton, also of
the U. S. Army spent the day
with their sister, Mrs. John L.
Thomas.
On August 1, Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. Thompson of San Angelo be-
came owners of the Phillips Pe-
troleum Wholesale and Retail
Gas Co. which they purchased
from C. B. Martin, Jr. They have
moved to the farm residence of
Mr. and .Mrs. T. U. Smith. Mrs.
Thompson will teach in the local
high school. Mr. and Mrs. J. E.
Hacker will remain with the new
firm as driver and bookkeeper.
We understand that Mr. and Mrs.
Martin will move to Central Tex-
as to operate a ranch.
Mesdames M. L. Aven, Percy
Hart, Robert Brooks and T. R.
Davis were hostesses at a shower
in the Methodist Church on Aug-
ust 10th honoring Mrs. Dayton
Hacker.
Mesdames G. R. Bennett, J. J.
Newsome and H. E. Loman were
hostesses at a bridal shower in
the home of Mrs. Bennett from
three to five p. m. on August 18
honoring Mrs. John L. Thomas.
