It's now tuesday morning u t nc tie trami for
_;wanne... hated to let him go, and without the car, but it tur >
.d out to be impossible for me to get to the base and back without
tje car, until i could explore around a little and find so:neonr
vho was going-my wa.y -s. there are no busae-s or taxis out here .
am between atlanta and the base (about five miles each way) ...
xe looked in buckhead, decatur, the city of atlanta, and all point-
between, but this was about the only thing that seemed to fit ...
there is a large army camp adjoining the air base and the soIJ>>
a lilies, and other attaches have taken all available living
quarters ...another thing, we had another flat tire and the e
ns in several pieces, altho the caseing looks o k, so hancis s,_d
he hated to put many more miles on the tires ... he was so sa7we
and patient, helping me look for a spot, and we had a terrific
1ie getting lost, and neasureing distances ... last night we w9.
t the ansley roof for dinner and i was very proud of him, he lo>
d so pretty, and danced every dance with me ... this house is th#
-ride and joy of a. widower, who is constantly bu lding more roova
which he rents to the army and navy ... he has a very pleasanA
housekeeperr who bestirs herself day and night removing purel;
.naginary dust from the floor and furniture ... when i woke
tl'is morning they insisted on feeding me coffee ... there are gs
_1 pig stands pretty near, but i believe the base has a. regular
fficer's mess which will provide food ... francis could get in
jtx out of the base with his uniform and identification card, a -
na lmost saluted to death, which gave me an edge on the other
irls, who had to wait for escorts everytime they cane on the U<.'
r moved from one part to another ... they really asked me ten
'ousand questions (written) yesterday ... even had to fill out
hat looked like a last will and testiment with benificiaries,
believe i'm at least as well equirnred to do the link business es
iy of the rest of the class ... the municipal airport is miles
wiay, and i think we work from 8 to five six days a week, so flk-
ng may be a little scarce, unless they will let me fly off the
vy field, which i doubt ... every single person i've conversed
ith in this section of georgia has been helpful, and polite, ana
_ry easy to get on with ... i'm sure i 'm going to like being here
_ d am glad that the work is alleged to be really arduous ..
