love to tell about him at this
time of the year. He is the one
who could not keep up in
Henry Van Dyke’s story The
Other Wise Man. He searched
his whole life for the child born
in Bethlehem.
This story about Christmas
is almost as popular as Charles
Dicken's A Christmas Carol.
That is the one that President
Franklin Roosevelt read to his
family on Christmas Eve.
It was not until 1895 that
The Other Wise Man was
copyrighted. It was in 1922,
when I was in the ninth grade
of Sanger High School and had
the wonderful literature
teacher. Miss Clarice Davis of
Denton, that we were asked to
study The Other Wise Man. We
each bought our own book, and
I have mine to this very day and
love to re-read the story.
Artaban’s horse's name was
Vasda. They started early to
join the other wise men and
follow the star that would lead
them to the baby to whom they
would present their balm and
incense.
A delay came when a man
fell ill across their path and
they had to give him aid and
lost time. Artaban sold his
lead him to the one born in
Bethlehem. Artaban’s hair
turned to white as he searched.
He wanted the King to have the
last jewel that remained of the
gifts he had planned for him.
As he continued his
journey, he saw a commotion as
a young girl was being dragged
away into slavery. For her
release he took the pearl from
its sale place in the folds of his
girdle and paid her ransom.
Days passed and he saw
people rushing madly to the

The foreword in the book
had said; “Who seeks for
heaven alone to save his soul
may keep the path, but will not
meet the goal: while he who
walks in love may wander far,
yet God will bring him where
the blessed are.” So the reader
learned (he story of the Wise
Man.
Next week I will tell (he
story of why the town of Sanger

Damascus gate; three men were
being nailed to crosses. The
sky turned black, the earth
shook, and the pearl that he
might have used for a ransom
was gone. As Artaban lamented,
a calmness came over his soul,
"Verily I say unto you. in as
much as you have done it unto
the least of these my brethren,
yon have done it unto me." His
journey was ended. His
treasure was accepted. The
Other Wise Man had found his
King.

That's right, for 3 days only Adams Furni-
ture in Justin is slashing their prices to re-
duce their inventory for January 1st, 1997
tax records. It’s simple, we pay taxes on ev-
ery item left in our inventory on January 1 st,
so we are determined to reduce our stock
(and there's lot of it) and therefore reduce
our taxes. The Taxman's loss is your gain.
Remember, this sale is for 3 DAYS ONLY!
The early bird gets the bargain so don't wait. .
many items are one-of-a-kind and quantities
are limited on all items.
