$35 per person and may be purchased at the
Chamber office or at the door on the night of
the event.
“The Chamber of Commerce is an affiliation of
businesses to support business and advertise
businesses. That’s what the chamber is really
about. It’s like the front door t( the community,”
said Larry Robinson, a past president of the
chamber.
“If you were to move from here to
Albuquerque, New Mexico, you would call the
chamber of commerce - what do you have
there, what are the schools like, what kind of
businesses do y u have. Things like that - that is
the main purpose of the chamber,” he added.
One area of growth Robinsi n saw as
chamber president was with local industry.
“That was about the time, when I was
president, that Formosa was going through the
permitting process, their expansion and we [the
chamber] were involved in all the environmental
and public hearings,” Robinson said.
“We even started a Formosa advisory
committee with the Chamber of Commerce,
which got businesses involved, and people that
were concerned would come into the Chamber
and we would meet and talk about it and have
Formosa there and explain their ideas of what
they had and had the marine bi legist there
to explain the effects on the bay and that was
very beneficial to Formosa and eventually
we changed that to an industrial advisory
committee. That took a lot of time,” he added.
