Jentsch began her ministry
later in life. She became a
reverend in 2008. The ministry
is Jentsch’s second career. She
was a school teacher teaching
high school English to first
grade reading, enjoying third
and fifth grades.
“I resisted, but God was
persistent. It was later in life,”
she said. “I totally enjoyed
teaching. I figured I would
retire from that and do art.
But that isn’t what God had in
mind.”
Jentsch has a master’s in
reading education. She was the
associate pastor for First United
Methodist Church in Seguin.
As minister of education she

I felt called to come here,”
Jentsch said. “I accepted and

“I think I had one set of

But it has gone beyond that,”
she said. “I have been told

Jentsch grew up in West

much sky. One day here, I was

for children and youth to grow

“That will entail the ones
we have and the ones who will
come,” Jentsch said.
Jentsch said she was not
expecting to be so blessed
within the ministry as she has
been.
“I understood God had a
job for me and he had equipped
me with the gifts to do the job.
He called me,” she said. “There
have been so many blessings
whether it be sharing the
word with someone or giving
communion and the look on
their face touches you very
deeply to leading a class and
you see the light come on and
the understanding flows.”
Jentsch has always been an
artist since childhood.
“My mother used to carry
in her wallet this 2-inch by
2-inch drawing of a rabbit I
did when I was 2 years old.
I’ve always loved it,” she said.
“The gift was there and it was
encouraged by her through
that one gesture that she would
carry it with her. She was a
very encouraging person and I
am, too.”
Her art has progressed
through the years. Jentsch
studied art in high school. She
took enough art electives in
college to almost minor in the
subject.
“I minored in history, but
for fun I would take classes in
art. As an adult I studied with
Warren Hunter in San Antonio.
He took me to another level.
Whatever location I was if
nationally known artists came
to town, I would seek them
out and take workshops with
them. I read lots of books. I am
trained to squeeze information
out of books,” she said.
Jentsch sees the ministry,
teaching and art as interrelated
gifts.
“Practically every day
you see it. I can remember
being part of the team that
was heading up vacation bible
school. They decided we would
make some staging materials
for a play. It was Noah’s ark.
And one boy said we couldn’t
draw something like that,” she
said.
“It started with a line here
and a line there and he could
see it. When it was over with, it
was an ark and he was so proud.
And maybe that assisted him
to view the future with maybe
it is possible,” she said. “You
never know when it might come
together.”
Jentsch said a simple
sermon is another example
of how all three gifts come
together.
“You have been taught
tie your ideas together
