THINKING
What is the ultimate end of all
''Education’’? The majority of suc-
cessful business men. bankers, and all
executives owe their success in the
business world to the fact that they
have developed the ability to think at
a very early period in their career.
Let us think of ways and means of
applying brain power when we want
to.
In summing up the characteristics
that build toward success, there can
be no dispute as to the fact that the
ability to think ranks foremost among
the requirements necessary to a
capable executive to insure success in
his undertakings, because along with
thinking come three other essentials
upon which to build a successful
career—concentration, ability to plan,
and decision. These three go hand in
hand, for as one develops the ability
to think, so he must develop the abili-
ty to plan, to carry on these two he
must be able to make correct and un-
failing decisions.
But how and where do we develop ■.
the ability to think? 1 would say that
this is another case where practice
makes perfect, and with this in mind,
and a determination to acquire an end,
we shall develop the ability to think.
All those who have watched the "Tea
Kettle" know that boiling the water
will reduce the visible volume in the
container, therefore, boiling down
really means finding out what your
problem is. Then gather your facts,

profit, who will do the work, is it
practical.—and other questions that
should occur to us according to our
problem.
While a careful analysis of a prob-
lem as outlined above would almost
insure a practical decision, it stands
without saying that common sense
must be applied to all thinking. This
again will lead to a careful elimina-
tion of all prejudice; for one must
use reason and not permit favoritism
in his method. This boiled down again
can be expressed in a few words.
“Think along the lines of honesty,
using good old common sense, and you
can then feel that any decision made |
will be a practical one. and will gain j
the end desired."
