So we have a very poor place;
we are still looking for something
better, but it is incredibly diffi-
cult, yet still the urgent need of
taking in my aged and sick moth-

large and normal apartment. I am
telling all this so that you will
know that if a brother comes to
us from the United States, as we
would like, he will find very bad
conditions here, like a mission
field.

arrangements to attend school
there.
One question I would like to
ask you: Do you think that ar-
rangements could be made to send
some of these boys and girls to
ACC? By this I mean could we get
them jobs. They certainly don’t
want it any other way. I will keep
talking to these people.
Personally, moreover, and with
my wife’s strong encouragement
(who Is so happy In the Churek,
after a girlhood In the denomina-
tions which was very trying), I am
trying to obtain a place as offi-
cial translator in the court of tbte
city. There are always many fore-
igners in Maresllle. In case of lay
being able to find a place to w*
celve my clients I could thin have
an Independent situation which
would allow me to devote a good
part of my time to the work of
God and to visiting, for persoml
visits are Important In* beginning
and carrying on a solid work. Bat
at present my efforts to get a

AU that I have talked to, say
that they would be happy to do
such a thing. You would
understand what I mean If. you
could know some of these people
like ACC
You have no doubt been told
that eighty percent of Puerto Rico
te Catholic. Some would like to
have you believe this but there Is
a group of 40 percent that are
nothing. Many of those with whom
I have talked, who claim they are
Catholic say that It is only tra-
dition.
If we could just teach the “plain
truth” to them, I’m sure that we
would reap a bountiful harvest.
There are many other things that
I plan to tell you but Ill not at-
tempt to do so In this letter.
The Lord willing, I will be home
Now, In ur last appeal to you
for further cooperation in liquidat-
ing this small debt, we have all
the reason jib believe that you will
respond willingly, thereby helping
us to reach the goal we set out to
attain, that of permanently estab-
lishing the cause of Christ in the
Hawaiian Islands. We feel quite
sure that the work will continue
to grow under the supervision and
full support of the Central Chur-
ch of Christ in Los Angeles, Calif
May God bless all of you, in-

territory than they can take of. I
see so much that needs to be done
and can be done if we will set our

This Juan Jose Rivera you told
me about is certainly a fine boy.
Some weeks ago I went to San
Juan especially to vslt with him.
He to only eighteen years of age
and to in his third year at the
University of Puerto Rico. He is
also very Interested in becoming
a Christian and desires to attend
ACC and study Bible.
I know of several Puerto Rican
boys and girls who would be the
happiest people on earth if they
had the chance to work their way
through college. For instance, I
have a boy working with me now
who te a senior In high school. He
ches have things arranged. Each
denomination has a plot or terri-
tory in which they do their miss-
ion work, and have their church-
es. They have agreed not to over-
step by going Into other territory
to do work.
The Presbyterian Church has
the largest territory. The Chris-
tian church got their territory
through the Presbyterian church.
I have become acquainted with
several of these Presbyterians and
