> /ears ago when I first came to Beth Yeshurun, we
inaugurated our first Congregational Shabbat Retreats.
I The first three of these wonderful gatherings took place
at Camp Young Judaea and were attended by Beth Yeshurun
members of all ages. Over the years, however, as the numbers that attend have
grown larger, the ages of the participants has grown ever-younger. Today our
Congregational Retreats are now Family Retreats for whom the target ages are
young parents and their young kids.
But what about the rest of us?
That is why I'm delighted to announce our first-ever retreat for adults only
- Nov. 12-13 at the Woodlands Resort and Convention Center.
Here is an opportunity for adults of all ages to eat, pray and learn in the
natural setting of the gorgeous Woodlands Resort. We will share 24 hours
together welcoming Shabbat with an innovative Friday night experience; study
Torah together Shabbat morning; and enjoy being with people we know and
others we will meet. (And of course, we'll be enjoying lots of wonderful food!)
We will be joined by a delightful scholar/humorist, Michael Wex, one of
America's best-known Yiddishists. You don't have to know a single word of
Yiddish to enjoy Michael Wex! Not only is he a scholar, he is a man who knows
how to bring Yiddish to life with his endless collection of Yiddish stories and
jokes.
Author of several best-selling books on the subject (check him out on
Amazon.com or at www.michaelwex.com), we will not only learn from him, we will
laugh with him as well. Coupled with Torah study with our Beth Yeshurun rabbis,
we are planning a Shabbat together that will linger well past our day together.
So plan on joining us now! Turn to pages two and three in The Message for
complete details and registration information. And please note: We have only
reserved a limited number
of rooms which we predict
will go quickly, and it is not
known if additional rooms
will be made available by the
Woodlands Resort. So if you
are interested in joining us,
please act now.
Any questions: Call
or email Program Director
Tammy Friedman [tfriedman@

I look forward to spending
a beautiful Shabbat with you
in the Woodlands!
