The theme for the banquet this year is HOMETOWN PROUD.
until later). One or both of the Grandparents
usually had a wheat field near their houses
that had green wheat where we hid the eggs.
I do not believe we counted the eggs as they
dealing with their loss.
I want to encourage parents
who have children to not wash
over grief when it occurs. When
a household pet is gone, wait a
while before you replace them.
We never attended an Easter parade but we
still dress for Easter. I have many pictures
for my kids in their Easter outfits hunting
pets and when they died we dis-
cussed it. In fact, if you asked
my children they could probably
tell you every animal we had as
well as how they died. Some
were a result of age, while oth-
ers were sick and to our heart-
ache-one got ran over by us.
We currently have two dogs
that will die in the years to
come. Gizmo is 13 and Addie is
9 Ca. Will we grieve? Yes, even
adults feel loss when a beloved
pet dies. So when you face the
death of piggy or another pet, get
ready to grieve. Just remember
if a child is involved you have to
use wisdom and time to get back
to a healthy place emotionally.
Piggy is going to market, but his
death can only be traumatic if
you do not deal with it well.
know the teachers looked forward to it also.
I do not know how those schools that have
year around school years survived. One of
one year to such a
school and loved it. I think they took more
time off several times a year but still I en-
joyed the time that we had off just not as
much as a spring break. May God Bless and
I only showed animals one
year and our children never did,
so I will admit show animals
are a mystery to me. I admire
the hard work and dedication it
takes not only from the kids, but
their parents as well. For months
they feed, work, and then pre-
pare to show animals that may
take 30 minutes or numerous
shows, but in the end that piggy
is going to be eaten or taken for
someone else to eat.
I have a friend whose husband
adores animals. They recently
became parents to a 16 year old
who shows pigs. The problem
is that the husband cannot bring
himself to eat piggy. They have
to sell the pig to someone else
simply because killing him for
bacon makes the husband nau-

The courthouse employees have been busy sorting, packing, and
several moving to their temporary locations. They all have worked
tirelessly without complaining and with great efficiency. I am
amazed at how each division has organized and relocated to con-
tinue to provide services to Swisher County. The County Precinct
workers also helped in the move and set up of the different depart-
ments. Give them all a pat on the back next time you see them! It has
not been an easy task.
Swisher County Precinct 3- This precinct covers approximately
300 miles of dirt roads. The area is maintained by two road grad-
ers and two county employees. Recently additional equipment was
needed especially since the road graders can only operate under cer-
tain conditions. County Commissioner Joe Murrell looked into the
cost of a road groomer that could be pulled by a tractor. The cost
was excessive and the closest place to get a road groomer was Iowa
which would add additional cost for shipping and a delay of a couple
of months. Precinct 3 workers Joe Murrell, Lamar McBride and
Frankie McKelvy looked into building a road groomer. It was decid-
ed it could be done. Plans were made with materials purchased lo-
cally at Brown Equipment with heavy duty metal purchased and cut
at Roll-A-Cone. The three county employees set out to construct this
complicated piece of equipment with the help of Precinct 3 work-
er Harvie Whitsett. Thanks to their combined skills it was accom-
plished in record time saving the county tax payers approximately
$17,000. This equipment is impressive. It is heavy duty with three
hydraulic cylinders that allow the blades to tilt including a wing that
with mow the ditches. Thanks to all the county employees for your
commitment and your hard work! You are appreciated!
seous.
This is an example of a par-
ent’s grief, but I have also seen
the grief so many kids face when
their piggy gets sold. I know
they know what is going to hap-
pen, but it is different when you Give your child time to grieve.
Let them travel this path for a
while so when a major loss oc-
curs they have some skills. I
know many laugh at the com-
mercial where the dad is racing
new car to buy a goldfish
to replace the dead one, but it
makes me sad. They stole a
growth opportunity for their
child that could have been han-
dled with love.
Do I regret not having show
animals for my kids? No, be-
cause I saw how much work it
took. I am grateful that we had
This week is spring break and many of the
schools are out for the week. I think that
many people have gone somewhere for the
week - like a vacation. I do not blame them
as the weather, the fires, and the opportunity
to go where they can get away. I do not
remember our kids getting out for a whole
week at this time of the year. I do know they
got out for Easter on Thursday and did not
go back until the following Monday. We
usually came to Texas for Easter just be-
cause we did not get to come down except
on holidays. We loved to come down for
Easter as it was always wanner and the kids
knew the grandparents would spoil them
with Easter stuff. My kids had an Easter
basket that lasted them from year to year but
they could receive the Chocolate bunnies
and got to decorate the boiled eggs with all
are faced with it. They cry as
they are selling their pet which
in turn brings tears from others.
I used to think this was cru-
el, but age and experience have
taught me-brief bouts of grief his
help us deal with major grief
incidents better. I had someone
tell me the other day that they
had not lost anyone in their life
that they loved until they were
young adults. How did they deal
with death and grief when it did
come? Not well actually. In fact
they spoke of how they are still
the colors that the dyes would allow. They
also had contests to see who did the prettiest
egg. The dyes then were the food coloring
dyes (they did not have the Easter egg dyes Easter eggs. We had such fun even then.
When we went home the kids would be so
tires they would sleep the whole way. This
gave Joe and me time to relax also.
I know now that the kids really need a
knew that if they were not found they would break from school as they did back then. I
just turn into fertilizer in the fields. We may
not have even thought about it. The plastic
eggs did not along until many years later.
We would also dress up for Easter Sunrise my grandchildren went
services and the Sunday services in new out-
fits that usually I made for them or one of
the Grandparents bought or made for them.
That meant new summer sandals, dresses,
suits, and even hats and gloves. Back them Keep Everyone This Week whether you are
they still had Easter parades in some towns, on the road or still at home.
