“If you do head-in parking you get additional parking
spaces,” Sullivan said.
He said a portion of the library’s yard would be cut to
make way for an additional 10 parking spots.
“That would give us additional downtown parking
and the county would be paying for it. So great
partnership there,” Sullivan said.
He said the city has to approve any head-in parking

It’s summer reading time at the Cooke County
Library.
Signups begin today, Saturday, June 1, and run
through June 15 for the library’s “A Universe of
Stories” summer reading program. Children’s
Coordinator Kim Reiter expects hundreds to sign up
over the next two weeks for the program’s three age
ranges — kids, teens and adults.
About 250 children signed up for last year’s
program along with another hundred or so teens
and adults, Reiter said. This year, she anticipates at
least that many to sign up again.
“We’ve had a lot of people excited about it,” she said.

The principal at Chalmers Elementary is
moving up in Gainesville Independent School
District.
Brittenie Polk was named the new director
of special education at GISD, the school
district recently announced.
She joined the district in 2016
as principal at Chalmers
and has spent seven of her
14 years in education as an
administrator, according
to a press release from the
school.
Polk has a master’s degree
from Abilene Christian
University as well as a
bachelor’s in history with a
minor in education from West Texas A&M
University.
She is succeeding Kim Otto, who’s retiring
from GISD after a decade as the special
education director, the release indicated.
Otto spent 28 years with GISD in her
32-year career and is going on to serve as
principal of St. Mary’s Catholic School.
“I have enjoyed my years growing as an
educator at GISD as a teacher, principal
and director,” Otto said in the release. “The
last 10 years have been deeply rewarding
working with special education students
and their families. I am excited for my new
endeavors at St. Mary’s.
“The students and staff at GISD will always
hold a special place in my heart, and I know
that the special services department is in
good hands with Mrs. Polk,” Otto added.
