WE ARE CHRISTIAN CHAUVINISTS
Tomorrow the Baptists of the Nation begin meeting in Mobile in their annual Board
Meeting. This session they will follow up work begun by our own Maurice Carr and
Tophas Anderson with the National Baptist Laymen's Movement to establish a national
program based loosely on our Boys' Rites of Passage. The pastor will attend; and expect
to see our men more and more involved in helping our churches develop programs that
aim at boys. (Yes, we love girls!)
SHARE THE DREAM WITH A CHILD TOMORROW
If you work in a company or institution or agency that will allow you to be off tomorrow,
take advantage of it. If you do not, but have an available vacation or annual leave day,
take it. But don't go fishing! Find a child who was not bom when Dr. King lived, and
attend a memorial activity tomorrow. Here are some that we know about — there must be
five times this many:
A SWEET, SWEET SPIRIT IN THIS PLACE
What a way to begin the observance of Martin Luther King Day — our 1996 MLK revival
with dynamic Dr. Jeremiah Wright of Chicago sits firmly on top of earlier MLK revivals.
Jerry's preaching, always powerful, packed a special punch this year after the heartaches
he had completing the sanctuary portion of Trinity Church, and in the wake of the national
unrest regarding such 1995 events as the verdict in the trial of O. J. Simpson and the
divergence of views on the 'Million Man March.' His new book on families, Good News!
came out just in time to be on our book table, and you need to get a copy - most book
stores carry it. And be sure to get tapes of Dr. Wright's messages. See page 18 for prices
and dates of availability. We felt the powerful movement of the Holy Spirit in the choirs,
in the fellowship with one another, in virtually everything that happened last week.
Thanks to all who participated — especially to the least visible: those who gathered each
morning at 11:00 to pray for revival. Now we can really plunge into 1996!
