go to the State Conference Tourn-

To Three Meets
j San Antonio College track team

track meet held last week at
Fort Worth. The team qualified
in the following events for the
finals: 20 yard high hurdles, 440
yard dash, low hurdles. In the
mile relay SAC‘s team ran it in-3
minutes point 33 and one tenth

Rangerette Dinner
Fetes Roundbailers
The annual Rangerette Basket-
ball Banquet was held at Young-
bloods on March 14 at 7. Every
year the Rangerettes honor the
boys on the basketball team with
a dinner.
Guests of honor were Dr. Lois
Morrison, Mr. and Mrs. Warne
Hallmark, and Mrs. Vernon La
Bauve, Coach and Mrs. Bill Cand-
ler, and Miss Cynthia Armstrong.
After-dinner speakers included the
faculty guests of honor and co-
captains Dale Davidson and Don
Martin.
Susie Shoemaker, Betty Stein,
tribute to the roundbailers with a
poem fashioned after an inter-
view with St. Peter in front of
the Pearly Gates.

Presented at the annual First
Lady Dance were the 10 final-
ists in the “Miss El Alamo” con-
test. Selected by three outside
judges at the Saturday, March
9th dance, was Joan Julian. The
runnerup was Nancy Nelson.
Other finalists were Jane Keel,
Judy Brose, Carolyn Nesrsta
Norann Melliff, Joy Stage, Ann
Thoman, Rochelle Evans, and
Lynn Zimmerman.
Glenn Wogstad, past president
of Beta Phi Gamma, presented
the 10 coeds to the couples at
the dance. The judges’ decision
was based partially on audience
applause. In the main, contest-
ants were judged on the basis of
beauty, personality, and poise.
Glenn talked to each girl, asking
her what class she was in, her
special interests, and her major
subject.
In the first round, five girls
were eliminated. The Discords
from Alamo Heights High School
sang “Sentimental Journey” and
“Young Love.” In the second
round three girls were eliminated,
leaving Joan and Nancy. The
Discords sang “Bermuda” and
Mandy Carpenter played “Star-
dust” on the piano. Joan Ham-
mett then announced Joan Julian
as “Miss El Alamo.”
SAC Water, Show
Will be May 1 and 2
May 1 and 2 have been selected
as the dates for the San Antonio
College Water Show. An annual
event, the show is eo-sponsored
this year by the SAC Acquatic
Club and the P.E. Council.
A newspaper will be featured
as the theme of the show with
the various swimming numbers
presented to represent the differ-
ent sections in the paper.
The two girls’ swimming classz-
es will also participate in group
numbers, and solo and small
group numbers will represent the
fashion page, the garden section,
the lovelorn column, and many
others.
Boys from the Acquatic Club
will present an exhibition of
diving^ Of particular interest will
be the clown diving.
Scenery will be around the pool
and elaborate costumes will be
worn by the acqua-maidens and
acqua-men.
Time of the water show and
further information will be an-
nounced in The Ranger at a later
date.

only 25 cents, their swimsuit,
and their lunch. The clinic will be
an all-day affair, but persons
may attend any portion of it
they choose or the entire pro-
gram. The schedule will be;
9:00 Introduction of Miss Cush-
man and Corkettes.
9:15 Exhibition.
9:30 Demonstration of stunts.
10:30-12:30 Practice of stunts
(everybody).
12:30-1:30 Lunch.
1:30 Movies demonstrating syn-
chronized swimming.
3:00-3:30 Choreography
Exhibition.
3:35 Training and condition.
4:00-6:00 Practice.
6:00 Exhibition.
6:15 Dinner.
7:30 Judging competition
synchronized swimming.
The last event is designed
mainly for advanced swimmers
and teachers who need experi-

Among the competitors were
freshman from Texas University,
S^.M.U., North Texas and other
schools, S.At-C. was the only
junior college there.
The SAC track team coached
by -Bill Candler took fourth
place in the Border Olympics last
Monday in Laredo.
Compiling a total of 25 points,
the track team came in behind
Victoria, Cisco, and Arlington col-
leges which placed first, second,
and third respectively.
-f* Almaraz copped first place in
the 440 yard dash, as Looney and
Cervantes took second in the pole
vault event. In the 220 high hur-
dfcs two SAC trackmen, Morgen-
seed and Day, won fourth and
fifth place respectively. Bill Cas-
sidy took fourth place in the mile
run. In the mile relay Kistner
Day, Becker, and Almaraz won
third place.
Eleven colleges from all over
the state participated in the Bor-
der Olympics.
The SAC Track Team beat ]
Schreiner by a score of 72-68 on ,
February 27. The Track Team :
will enter in the South West
Track Field and Golf meeet J
which will be held on March 15
and 16 at Fort Worth. On March
30 SAC will hold a track meet
here. The Texas Jr. College Track
Tennis and Golf meet will be on
May 6 and 7 which SAC will
enter.

Ten points were given for first
place, seven points for second,
five points for third place. Each
team was awarded two points for
every game they played, regard-
less of the outcome of the match.
If a team defaulted a game it
had two points subtracted from
their score.
Practice is now underway for"
the swimming meet to be held
on March 28. The two remaining
contests will be a posture judg-
ing and a badminton competition.
