THE SENIORS THANK YOU. Last Thursday was Thanksgiving Day.
Most Americans had a big dinner. But our Meals on Wheels ministry,
which takes a meal each weekday to indigent seniors, does not
operate on holidays. So those elderly folks might not have had a
meal on Thanksgiving Day, but for the volunteers who came to the
church to deliver meals to them, even on a holiday. The seniors were
pleased, and we think God was, too!

Announcements - Sunday, November 30, 2003
MISSION SUNDAY
WE HAVE NOT FINISHED OUR JOB. Providing good government
is an absolutely essential task for all of us in a democracy. If people
of good will and integrity do not vote, then the unscrupulous and the
corrupt control our government. We voted for a Mayor, for members
of a City Council, and for a Controller early this month. There are still
vacancies to be filled. Early voting started November 19 and ends
this Tuesday. The final election will be held on Saturday, December
6. So you have three more days to vote—but do vote!

Announcements may be submitted by fax, e-mail or in

TODAY IS ALSO THE FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT, the pre-
Christmas season when the Christian community prepares for the
birth of Jesus. It is important to focus more on the coming of the
Christ at this season than to be obsessed with Santa and what we can
get. See the meditation page for a word on this emphasis.
COME ON INTO THE TWENTY-FIRST. We are now getting used to
our new real estate, and we must also get used to making plans to
use it. We must schedule meetings and events through our EMS
system, so we do not collide with each other. Please call the office
and put your meeting or event on the schedule—or somebody else
will take your time and space. Anybody planning for December
events?
NOW, WHERE IS THAT PREACHER? Your pastor is very
domesticated. He very seldom misses Sunday morning at Wheeler.
But two good reasons take him away today. (1) The youth emphasis
on this Mission Sunday is a natural for the Minister to Youth, Rev.
Kyra Hinckson, and she will bring both morning messages today; and
(2) Bill has been asked to take one of the Sundays at Brentwood
Baptist Church, in the stead of Pastor Joe Ratliff. So pray for all three
of us!
Wheeler Avenue’s Church bulletin is
published on a weekly basis to inform the
congregation of activities in the church and
surrounding communities. Wheeler Avenue
activities have priority over all other
materials offered for publication. Please
note that materials submitted must stay in
a spiritual atmosphere.
THE TRADITION LIVES ON. Last Wednesday evening, we came
together again this year. Eight churches worshipped the evening
before Thanksgiving Day, climaxed with interfaith communion, and
capped off with groceries given to Manna House and money given to
St. James Episcopal Church. Thanks to our sister churches, and to
Wheeler, who hosted them all. Same time next year!
TODAY IS MISSION SUNDAY. Wheeler focuses on missions four
times a year, on fifth Sundays. And today our General Mission
emphasizes our ministry to youth. Our Chapel Choir provides music,
and our Minister to Youth, Rev. Kyra Hinckson, brings both messages.
Look on page 3 & 4 for the leadership of our General Mission at
large, and of our Youth Mission in particular. Yes, we can use
volunteers!
• Announcements submitted months in advance will be
published according to space. We will run your
announcement the month of your event as often as
