Man's Business

NEW YORK 'i f —Many a ca-

! men. j
With Vera Green of Worcester,
I Mass., it was just the opposite.
) She hit the top in an industry
I usually run by men before sh<*
j branched into a business ordinari-
' ly run by women.
Mrs, Green is assistant treasurer
and secretary of the Botwinik
Bros., a large machine tool manu-
I facturing company. She's been in
the machine tool field for 15 yeais
now—ever since she got out of
business school.
She recently opened a couple of
dress shops as a sideline.
"I had to let the feminine side
of me come out in business too,"
she laughingly explained.
A .Model Too
She can play the lady to her
heart's content now—putting on
some 25 fashion shows a year and
modeling in many of them herself.
There are few enough women
who have worked their way up in-
to the executive branches of the
machine tool business, but Mrs.
Green hasn't stopped there. She's
the only woman ever to have held
a chairmanship in the National
Office Management Association.
She's one of NOMA'S busiest

writers and speakers. She's had
published articles on careers for
women, and office standards for
business concerns. Her speaking
engagements take her across the
country several times a year.
Said the vivacious blonde busi-
ness woman, "A n intelligent wom-
an with comparable training can
hold her own on a job with a man
any day, and in many cases can
surpass him."
"It's getting to be a woman's
world," she added.
Warning to Men
She pointed out that the defense
program would bring more women
into offices, and she predicted
many of them would take over top
jobs once held by men.
"The mediocre man had better
watch his step, if he doesn't want
to fall by the wayside in compe-
tition with women," she said.
"Women feel they have to be bet-
ter than men in order to get ahead
. . . and often they are."
Mrs. Green, in her early 3U's, is
married to the vice president of
the machine tool company.
For all her activities in business
and at home, she still finds time
for her hobbies—rose growing,
flying, and golfing.
She's a member of a hole-in-one
club, which shows that drive just
comes naturally to her—no matter
what field she's in.
Jammed Door b
Fatal For Five
URBANA, O. Nov. l'J (U.R.—A
jammed door was blamed today for
the death of a 33-year-old tenant
farmer, his wife and their three
children in a kerosene-fed fire in
their two-room home.
Firemen said Ben Cantrell threw
kerosene into a coal stove yester-
day causing an explosion and fire
which trapped the five.
Cantrell's brother George, who
lived in the other half of the one-
sto^r house, said he managed to
get his sister-in-law out through
a Window, but that the blocked
door prevented him from helping
the others.
Mrs. Cantrell died at a hospital.

But in addition. Creamed Turkey

is the preparation. The creamed

of time and heated at the last min-
