In the spirit of the season, it's time
to reflect on what is good about San
Antonio College.
Perhaps this college's strongest
point lies in the diversity of those
who come here. Classes filled with
students of different ages, races,
cultures and goals give each of us a
chance to grow.
These provide new perspectives
and encourage us to open our
minds. Thus, learning takes place.
This college stands for quality in
its educational programs. It's an
ideal place for a student to get the
foundation needed to launch a
career, to prepare for a baccalaureate
degree or gain the training needed
to change careers.
This college boasts the city's only
planetarium. Plans are in the works
to link it with public schools and
offer the planetarium as a laboratory
for astronomy classes.
This college has KSYM, a popular
and innovative radio station. Many
disc jockeys and radio, television
and film professionals got their start
here.
The associate's degree in mortuary
science offered here stands as the
only program of its kind in Texas.
Our nursing graduates consis-
tently have the highest state board
examination scores and get high
marks from employers in follow-up
surveys by the nursing department.
Many of San Antonio's finest
jewelry designers learn their craft at
this college's work benches.
. An associate's degree in advertis-
ing art from here opens doors to a
career in advertising. Agencies seek
and hire SAC-trained designers.
Hundreds of thousands of success-
ful people in this community and
specific about his course work and degree

Happy holiday
Counting our blessings one by one
around the state bear witness to the
quality instruction available here.
Of the outstanding departments
and programs here, a common
thread runs through all. We are
blessed with a superb faculty and
many supportive administrators.
The Ranger has much to appreci-
ate about this college
As a student newspaper, The
Ranger staff interviews and photo-
graphs many people throughout the
year. We are grateful for the time
they give us.
Many campus professors, admin-
istrators and staff must endure the
same questions year after year by
our reporters.
President Max Castillo treats The
Ranger staff with diplomacy and
respect. Though he may not always
agree with our content, he never
bullies us. He understands the value
of free expression.
District Public Safety Chief Jack
Benefield by now must be tired of
telling us how many parking spaces
there are on campus, but he returns
our calls promptly and answers our
questions professionally.
We are especially grateful for
those people who continue to grant
us interviews despite what we have
previously written about them.
Their faith in our objectivity is a
high compliment.
People who have taken the time to
write letters to the editor are espe-
cially important to us. While we
love complimentary letters, we also
take seriously those critical of us.
Either way, letters tell us you are
out there reading what we write,
and we appreciate that.
