vored at '1-1 to register his ,'iOth
straight victory Friday night over
bridegroom Gene Fullmer o f
Ctah at Madison Squaie Garden
lid move closer to a middleweight
title fight.
Their TV-radio NBC 10-roundei
-iuld be a thriller because Lausse
is a terrific puncher who bleeds
easily and Fullmer is a good hitter
, no plunges hi. Neither has ever
been stopped.
Swarthy, broad-shouldered Laus-
se, 28, is favored because he is
ranked fourth among contenders
for the 100-pound crown and be-
cause he has knocked out 48 of Hi.-
07 opponents for the remarkable
kayo average of ,71t>. He belted out
2ft of 29 during his current winning
streak.
y.
word was that the Middies remain
favored by seven points.
In another game only typical of
many iong-stunding rivalries being
renewed, Notre Dame, the nation's
highest-ranked independent team
will be the choice by 10 points to
gain its ninth win in 10 starts at
the expense of Southern California.
Texas Christian, the host team
for the Cotton Bowl game, is a
14 point favorite over Southern
Methodist in a game that hus sud-
denly taken on new significance.
That's because TCU now can
clinch the Southwest Conference
championship by winning this one,
thanks to the stunning 21ti upset
handed Texas A&M by Texas
Thursday.
Aggies Score First
The Aggies went into that na-
tionally - televised Thanksgiving
Day tussle a 13 point pick, need-
inly only a victory to gain their
first league crown since 1940. And
they scored first when Jim Wright
bucked over from the one in the
second quarter.
But the Aggies missed the extra
point and that was their lust
chance. Aroused Texas scored 10
seconds before halftime on Joe
Clements' 25-yard pass, went
ahead on Johnny Elam's conversion,
then pushed the Aggies around
throughout the second half before
clinchig the game on fourth-period
touchdowns by Walt Fondren and
Ed Hawkins.
Mississippi, like Texas Christian,
can clinch a league title—the
Southeastern—by making good as
a seven-point pick over Mississippi
State Saturday.
Three Other Hopefuls
If Ole Miss stumbles, the title
could wind up in the hands of Au
burn, Georgia Tech, or Vander-
bilt, all of them favored in their
separate games. Out of this group
will come the host team for the
Sugar Bowl and possible Texas
Christian's Cotton Bowl rival.
Oklahoma, the nation's No. 1
team, hopes to finish a perfect sea-
son Saturday uud is the day's most
lopsided choice at 35 points over
Oklahoma A&M
Little Miami of Ohio, which has
been mentioned as a Gator Box.l
possibility, kept those hopes shin-
ing brightly Thursday by winding
up u perfect season with a 14 0
triumph over Cincinnati.
The holiday also was a happv
one for Wichita, which finished in
a tie for the Missouii Valley Con
Terence championship by crushing
Tulsa 54-0 as Frank Brannen and
Hay Fulton scored two TD's each.
But it was unhappy for Wymo-
niing, beaten li-.'i by Denver and
thus prevented from tying Coloru

ence title.
