COMPLIMENTING MISS HURD
Far surpassing any thing in
the social life of Silsbee for some
time, was the shower given Fri
day afternoon at the beautiful
home of Mr. and Mrs. P. A.
Short. The home, a bower of
beauty with its decorations of
autum leaver, cut flowers and
pink and white draperies made
a fitting place in which to do
homage to one so beautiful.
Guests numbering more than
a hundred registered during the
evening. After being received by
the following ladies: Mesdames
Stevens, Short, Wright, Rogers,
Hurd, Harris and the honoree,
the guests were then directed to
the registry where Mrs. Lane
Harris presided, thence to the
punch bowl which was in charge
of Mrs. E. J. Wilson.
After the guests had all ar-
rived, the lovely bride accom
panied by mother was then taken
to her seat in the living room.
Seated beneath the huge wedding
bell, with a bank of white and
pink chrysanthemums used as a
back ground Miss Hurd made a
beautiful picture. An interest-
ing program consisting of the
following numbers added mneffi guests to their respective homes,
to the pleasure of the evening:
Reading—Little Frank Blow.
Vocal solo—Mrs. C. D. Cline
felter, accompanied oy Mrs. A.
W. Lightfoot
Reading— Miss Notie Louise
Turner.
REGISTER WITHOUT DELAY
The Texas automobile head-
light law requires that every
motorist, at the time of registra-
t on, presr-nt to the tax collector
a headlight certificate which has
been issued by a test Station
wnhin thirty days of the date ot
registration. If the car or truck
to be registered is not equipped
with headlamps, the registrant
will be permitted to make
affidavit to that effect and tnis
affidavit will take the place of a
headlight certificate. Early test-
ing and registration will help the
test stations and the tax collec
tor, and will save time for the
motorist.
Motorists cannot obtain a head
light certificate for registration
purposes on a re-test. The re-
test provision of the law permits
a re-test at any time during the
year, but the certificate pre-
sented for registration must be a
“test” certificate and must be
paid for. In other words, head- i
lamps are “tested” at the begin-
ning of each year for registration i
purposes, and at this time the
regular yearly fee of twenty-five
ce^ts must be paid. At any time
during the year following, a re
test may be had free of charge
until the next registration period
begins.
After the coming pre-reg’stra-
tion tests, there Will not be
another set test until the 1927
registration period begins.
Throughout the year, however, a
constant check will be made on
the head lighting conditions in
the variouj parts of the state.
Enforce ment wors ts in fheTiands
of local officers, and motorists
are urged to co-operate with them
in reporting bad headlighting
conditions. There is no doubt
that cotn pl iance with the head-
light law will mean a great sav-
ing of property and human lives.
If you do not comply with the
above rules McKim will not
register your car and Geo. Rainer
will get you the minute you show
up on the street after January 1,
without your 1926 number. No
grace will be given as was the
case last year.
