The Ranger does the most things best,” wrote.
the contest judge, Mac McKerral, coordinator for
news-editorial in the school of journalism and
broadcasting at Western Kentucky University,
. Bowling Green, Ky.
Kristina Lindberg and Cesar G. Rodriguez were
editors of The Ranger during this contest period.
The organization honors two student publica-
tions each year, one in the nondaily and one in
daily category. The Shorthorn at the University of
Texas at Arlington was named best daily.
This is the sixth time the organization has rec-
ognized The Ranger, the first time in its smaller, -
tabloid-size format.
“Tab design poses challenges. And The Ranger
does a good job on it,” McKerral wrote. “Its imag-
es and graphics show a sensitivity to' the need for
visuals, even on inside tab pages.”
The college newspaper, magazine and Web site
were honored in two other spring contests.
In the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association
competition for college newspapers and maga-
zines, The Ranger collected a number of awards

tions.

“This is a column that was tended to over the
years in the writer’s mind and finally planted in
the San Antonio College newspaper,” the judges
wrote. “It had grown gracefully, even majestically
over time.”
