Marvin Bosse, who did a lot of
playing at. center for the Bucs
last season, has been favoring an
injured knee and won’t be ready
Xor duty for some time; ,
The slk-fooLthrcje inch ‘center
is expected to be on th® front
line when he is able to go at
full steam.
Twenty-two players adorn the
Blinn squad at the present time,
but Butler hopes ‘to cut it down
to about fifteen in a couple of
weeks.
Felix Chrastecky’s passing
proved to be the difference at
Cub stadium Friday night as the
Smithville Tigers took a bi-dis-
trict 33-34-B football champion-
ship from the Bulldogs of Waller
high school, 6 to 0.
About 2000 fans saw the clubs
fight to an even match—except
for the right throwing arm of
‘‘Slinging Felix’’.
It was his aerial into touch-
down land midway in the first
quarter that racked up the mar-
gin of victory. .
A blocked put set up the score.
Kenneth Flora, who was the
spark for Waller all night, had
his punt blocked by End Norbett
Winkler on the Bulldog 34, and
Winkler recovered on the Waller
27.
James Quitta, the running star
for Smithville moved eleven
yards to the 16 for a first down.
Then after Tommy Herrington
lost three yards due to a fumble,
Chrastecky hit End Eugene
Simpson in the end zone for the
game winning tally. ——
Quitta’s try at the line for the
extra point was a yard short, and
the score was Smithville 6, Wal-
ler nothing.
The Tigers threatened again in
the second period when Quitta
scampered 41 yards on a quick
opener to set up a first down on
the Waller 29.
Dan Tucker, Herrington and
Quitta moved the ball to the 17
for another first before Smith-
ville was set back 15 yards for
illegal use of the hands.
In four plays Quitta carried
back down to the Bulldog 8.
where a fourth down try was just
inches short of a first down. ,
Waller’s most "Serious threat
came early in the second half.
After kicking off and holding
the Tigers, the. Bulldogs took
over on the Tiger 29 when Simp-
son fumbled on fourth down
when trying to punt.
Flora scooted 12 yards to the
17, but a 15 yard penalty hnoved
the ball back to the 32, and
Smithville took over on downs on
their own 27.
Smithville was knocking at
the touchdown door late in the
contest, which ended with the
ball resting on the Walter 15 in
possession of the victors.
