Mrs. Jack Weeks of Brady
recuperating at Brady
from an operation
there Monday.
rjto Nothing quite like
good food, especially
good that kw, to give the Labor Day
weekend a holiday air.
FROZEN ORANGE CRUSH will
start the day bright. Pour orange
juice into refrigerator trays; freeze
to mush. Serve in sauce dishes with
a saucy sprig of mint.
WHOLE KERNEL CORN
FOLDED INTO SCRAMBLED
EGGS with some chopped chives or
parsley is a sunny surprise! (Sure,
leftover roasting ears can be de-
kerneled for corn, but who ever has
any left over?)
TAFFY ROLL UPS—the tasty
finale. Roll biscuit dough J4-inch
thick. Spread with butter, cinna-
mon, sugar and raisins. Ro!) jelly
roll style; slice. Bake at 400° F. 15
minutes; remove from oven; spoon
on Taffy Sirup: cup molasses, ^4
cup water and 1 tablespoon butter
cooked to softball stage (236° F.).
CHOCOLATE MINT WAFERS—
Nice for bidding farewells and clos-
ing cottages, lunch boxes or teas.
Make chocolate ice box cooky
dough. Shap* rolls about 50-cent
piece size; wrap in waxed paper;
chill several hours. Slice thin and
bake. Put together sandwich-style
with minted green powdered sugar
frosting.

A LABOR SAVING WAY WITH
SPAREP.IBS— APPROPRIATE
TO THE DAY. Simmer spareribs
until tender, about 1 hour. Remove
hones (they practically fall out) and
cut in serving-size pieces—we use 4
ribs per person. Refrigerate until 15
minutes liefore eating time in bar-
becue sauce—ready bottled or your
own special tomato paste-cayenne-
vinegar-brown sugar version. Re-
move from sauce; broil, basting fre-
quently with the barbecue sauce.
Ribless ribs mean easy eating.

The Scott-Daniel Mfg. Cc., a

Jones was bedridden for
and has been unable to do hard
manual labor since.
Jones had been toying with the
idea at the time of his injury.
Adversity only served to spur him
to greater endeavor.
Completing his tire-changer,
he applied for and received a pa-
tent on Jan. 1, 1947.
Realizing the tremendous com-
mercial possibilities of his
machine, yet convinced that he
was not sufficiently well trained
in the fields of business adminis-
tration and salesmanship to suc-
cessfully exploit it, Jones took
his ideas and his patent to two
Eden men whose ability and in-
tegrity were known to him. Scott
Daniel and Marvin Scott.
Daniel and Scott were the heads
of Eden’s two rival wool and mo-
hair warehouse. But they saw-
eye to eye on Jones' proposal. |
which was that he would turn the
patent over to them lock, stock,
'and barrel it they would pay himl
$10 royalty on each tire changer
type truck-tire changer which
will “remove the most stubborn
truck tire in 8 to 10 seconds
without manual lifting.” Old
methods required from 30 min-
utes to one hour under the most
favorable conditions. Truckers)
are known to have worked two
full days to remove a single tire, tire-changers.
Seriously injured in 1944, when
he Tell from the rafters of the ___ ________
Eden Wool & Mohair warehouse. 1 territory sales organization in
Jone- WM iiedridden for a yc.irl rexas 'an(j began drawing up
plans for a national sales organ-
ization. They ordered machinery.
They leased the 60xl00-Toot Dan-
iel warehouse.
Orders for tire-changers be-
gan coming in, however, before
they received delivery of manu-
facturing machinery, so they sub-
contracted with the Mechanical
Manufacturing Co. of Fort Worth
for 25 machines. Delivery of 22
w’as made this week,
delayed manufacturing
machinery and equipment will
arrive in Eden this week, it is be-
lieved, with local manufacture of
tire-changers to begin as quickly
as the machinery is installed and
tested.
Initial production will be
tire-changers a month, which will
list at $250.

| It was pointed out that there,
1 are 970 fleet truck lines in Texas
alone and approximately 27.000
in the U. S. operating from 10 to
100 trucks. The saving in man
hours to these lines would be
enormous.
The Jones tire-changer is a
four-cylinder affair weighing .361
pounds, with an over-all heignt
of three feet and designed for
one-man operation.
The manufacturers list lo fea-
tures:
1. 100 pounds of air-line pres-
sure will give a machine pressure
of 7,000 pounds.
2. One or all four cylinders
jsupply force in concentrated or
I equally-distributed points behind
, a movable steel ring housing a
j number of wide, adjustable steel
.«hoes which are brought into po-
| sition behind a “bead’’ of a tire
by only one movement oT a sin-
gle hand lever.
1 With wheel mounted in re-
verse position, steel shoes may be
brought into place against a rust-
ed lock-ring to break it loose
from wheel and also the tire from
1 the lock-rim.
! ,3. No manual lifting necessary.
4. Tire and rim are kept in
straight sliding position at all
times by equalizing pressure
. with control valve for each cylin-
l der. Normally, tire is removed by
kf- 39<
one master valve.
5. Crank allows easy adjust-
ment for various tire sizes.
6. Steel shoes fit exact contour
of tire bead en any size rim from
20-inches diameter down.
7. Machine breaks tire bead
loose from rim without damage
and presses tire completely off a
locking-type rim.
8. Air-cylinders automatically
exhaust at end of pressure stroke,
allowing instant release of force
when tire is removed.
9. Machine serves as safety
shield against possibility of defec-
tive lock-ring flying of rim
while tire Is being inflated.
10. One-man operation makes
tire change easy in less than 10
minutes.
