W. H. Bullard, a former resident of
Hugo, has been arrested for alleged
violation of the Mann “White Slave"
law by bringing a young woman,
Myrtle Peevy, from that place to
Paris for the purpose of concubinage.
The offense is alleged to have been
committeed last yuan The complaint
was sworn out by the alleged victim
herself before United States Commis-
sioner Jno. S. Stone on the 5th of
the present month. The defendant
was located at Marshall, where he
has relatives, and the warrant for his
arrest was sent to the deputy mar-
shal at Jefferson, who went to Mar-
shall and arrested him. He gave
bond for his appearance at the next
term of the Paris federal court,

young woman is about twenty. While
living with her ‘parents in Hugo two
or three years ago they moved to
Dallas, where her mother died, and
it is claimed her alleged downfall oc-
curred a little while after her moth-
er’s death.

The public endorsement of a local
citizen is the best proof that can be
produced. None better, none strong-
er can be had. When a man comes
forward and testifies to his fellow-
citizens, addresses his friends and
neighbors, you may be sure he is
thoroughly con- inced or he would not
do so. Telling one’s experience when
it is for the public good is an act
of kindness that should me appreciat-
ed. The following statement given
by a resident of Commerce pdds one
more to the many cases of Home En-
dorsement which are being published
about Doan's Kidney Pills. Read it.

sharp twinges through my body. I
also had trouble with my kidneys
which caused me annoyance. Read-

given by a friend who recommended
Doan's Kidney Pills, I was led to
try them. Through using them, I
had great benefit.” >

Seattle, Wash., May 12, 1914.—The
motion picture of the split log drag
in action, with D. Ward King riding
it, and driving the team, is reported
by the artist to be perfect. It will
soon be ready for the reels.
Mr. King's compaign in southwest-
ern Washington is finished and he
goes north to Everett, Snohomish,
and Arlington tomorrow. The gov-
ernor has issued a proclamation de-
signating May 22nd as good roads
day throughout the state. He urges
the people to drag the road o- 'hat
day.
It will be remembered that Mr.
King delivered a good roads talk in
Commerce about a year ago and dem-
onstrated the proper use of the road
drag. It is hoped that the above
mentioned pictures may be shown in
Commerce later on.

THREE CHILDREN
SCALDED—ONE DIES.
Three little children of Charley
Patterson, a farmer who lives four
miles southeast of Manchester on the
Manchester and Clarksville road, met
with an accident Monday which re-
sulted in the death of one of them
and the serious burning of the oth-
ers. The eldest of the children was
only three years old.
While they were all in the kitchen
standing around the cookstove where
their mother was preparing dinner
the three-year-old child pulled a pot
of beans down from the stove on it-
All of them
The eldest was
practically scalded all over and died
at 8 o'clock last night from the in-
juries which it received.
It was 11 o'clock when the acci-
dent happened and the family tried
all day to secure the services of a
doctor, but it was about night before
one arrived and the child died soon
after he reached its bedside. While
the two younger children were badly
burned and scalded it was thought
last night that they would recover.
The parents of the children had
twins to die about three weeks ago
only a few hours apart.
