resolution adopted at a meeting
Mr. McFadden finds that the ex- dressers’ Association- The
periments indicate that flax is a
profitable crop for fall seeding
in a large part of South Texas,
particularly if proper precautions
are taken by the growers to fol-
low the bdst procedure in growing
and handling the crop. Further-
more. the decline in cotton price*
resulting from the partial loss of
the world market for American
cotton and the absence of re-
strictions in, the Agricultural Pro-
ceed, which is a non-competitive
crop, offer some encouragement
for flax production in Texas.
In four out of the six years of
fall flax growing experiments the j
crop can be said to hare been a
bucc- -s. However, in the winter*
of 19.‘i4-35 and 1039-40, the crop
was severely injured in January
or February-
The yields of fall sown flax in
Texas range from r^nd 5 to 30
bushels per acre, -v raging about
' 12 bushels, which is well above
the average yield in the main
flax glowing areas. Seasonal con-
ditions that affect the stand* in
early fall greasy influence the
outcome of the crop-
